Quesnel, B.C. – A public hearing was held at Quesnel’s Council meeting this week to look at a zoning application that would allow the development of a micro-brewery on Davie Street.
The building at 185 Davie is currently vacant, and the staff report presented to Council indicates there is no concern from neighbours about increased activity however, it was noted a brewery does produce an odour. The staff report indicates that while the emissions are reminiscent of “Cheerios” most people don’t find the odour offensive.
Quesnel Council has granted third reading to the proposed zoning amendment to allow the development of a micro brewery by the Barkerville Brewing Company.

Q= Do we need a brewery?
A+ Not bloody likely. We have enough
trouble with Alcholics in Quesnel,
why make the problem any bigger
Right. I’m sure the alcoholics in Quesnel are all looking forward to paying a premium for craft beer.
Do you honestly think a micro-brewery is going to create more alcoholics? Speciality beers are not a very cheap form of alcohol …..most alcoholics drink cheap hard liquor because it’s a lot easier getting drunk off of a $12 mickey of rum then $5 bottles of beer. So I guess the real question is does Quesnel support entrepreneurship? Which not only will create jobs but will diversify and help to stabilize Quesnel’s economy which is so reliant on the ailing forest industry. The tax revenue off of new businesses in vacant buildings will help provide more money for social services such as the treatment of alcoholics.
Ah yes … the old temperance group at it again.
Let us get rid of restaurants so that we do not encourage public gluttony.
All the best of success for Barkerville Brewing Company!
first the building still has a for sale sign on it has not been used for years and years exept as a parking lot for the welfare building good luck it would be a good thing for downtown quesnel just seems a bit of fairy tale
Option 1 – no brewery – # of drunks – same
Option 2 – brewery # of drunks – same. $ staying in Quesnel – more, jobs in Quesnel – more. Seems like a win win to me, except I drink PWB so it better be really really good beer to get me to switch.
Many microbreweries have pubs or restaurants with great menus. Wonder if this will be the case in Quesnel. Just hope it’s fortunes are better than “Buffalo Brewing Company”. Although that was a “Brewpub”.
Why doesn’t PWB put a brewpub on the river beside the brewery. It only makes sense. The only restaurant on the river in PG. I can picture it now…ahhhhh
By the time those promoting the project get through the permitting process they’ll probably either be broke or be having second thoughts about why anyone would want to do anything like they want to do anyways.
Only those who are enjoy self-inflicted financial pain, or are completely ignorant of what they’re going to be up against in their dealings with ‘government’, would want to start a legitimate new business in BC nowadays.
Especially any venture on any scale larger than a single person owner-operator one. Good luck to them, I admire their entrepreneurial spirit. They’ll need all they can muster.
Gold rush has it exactly right. Those two great rivers are the best feature of PG and we hide them behind rail and industry. A pub on the river. Bring it on!
I love the name. Good luck to them
