Ride for Dad Today
Saturday, June 15, 2013 @ 4:53 AM

Motorcycle riders will be taking part in the Telus Ride for Dad event that raises funds and awareness about prostate cancer.
Registration for the ride will take place this morning at the Kinsmen Hall ( 777 Kinsmen Place) from 9:- 10:45. The actual ride will get under way at 11:00 a.m. sharp.
Ride for Dad is a national fund raising event, that started in 2000 when Garry Janz heard the words of Charlie Pester, a Kingston Ontario educator and role model: “If I had gotten checked this time last year, I wouldn’t be planning my own funeral today.”
Janz was inspired, and along with Byron Smith of the Ottawa Police Association, organized the first Ride for Dad in Ottawa. That ride raised just over $20 thousand dollars .
Since that initial ride, the Ride for Dad has rumbled its way across the country, taking place in 30 cities across Canada, and raising more than $9 million dollars for prostate cancer research.
It’s not to late to sponsor a rider taking part in today’s event. Just click here, and follow the instructions.
