Construction Values Down in First 5 Months of the Year

Prince George, B.C. – The latest building stats from the City of Prince George, show a year to date value of projects of $40,357,091 for 162 permits issued.
 
That is down from the same five month period in value and permits from 2012.   As of the end of May last year, there had been 193 permits issued, on projects valued at $57,766,424.00.
 
The main difference this year over last is in the area of permits and values of new industrial permits. In the first five months of 2013, there had been just one new industrial permit issued for a value of $1.5 million. That compares to 3 such permits issued during the same period last year for a combined valued of just over $29 million dollars.
 
The difference has been offset somewhat this year with 43 Commercial Alteration permits valued at just over $11.8 million, compared to 39 permits on projects valued at just over $6.24 million during the same period last year.   
 
The value of new commercial in 2013 is nearly $8 million compared to about $5 million during the first five months of 2012. There has also been a further $2.25 million value of Institutional alterations so far this year, well above the $290 thousand dollars worth of such alterations January to May of 2012.
