They’re Back…
Fireworks return to Canada Day Celebrations in Prince George thanks to Canfor
Prince George, BC – It was the perfect capper to a day that had it all – record heat; a downpour that included hail; delicious food; and a range of entertainment that fully captures the cultural diversity that is Canada…
The fireworks display that started at 11pm from Connaught Hill Park provided a spectacular wrap to the Multicultural and Heritage Society’s 39th year of Canada Day celebrations in the city.
During the opening ceremony to the celebrations at Fort George Park at noon yesterday, Prince George Mayor, Shari Green, thanked Canfor for sponsoring the return of the pyrotechnics – the company sponsored the $10-thousand display as part of its 75th anniversary celebrations.
Multicultural and Heritage Society Executive Director, Marlies Greulich, credits Mayor Green with encouraging Canfor to host the return of the late night show…something Canada Day celebrations have been without since 2007.
At this point, there’s no guarantee of a repeat performance next year, but it certainly was a great way to end the day.

Fireworks really freaks the dogs out. Fot that reason I don’t like them.
My dogs don’t, only fire works do, as many other animals within earshot. Your comment has no bearing on the issue BCRacer.
Canfor put on a nice show last night. I thought the spot they picked was perfect! Everyone could enjoy the show. The best part you could find your own little spot and just enjoy. You didn’t have to worry about the “drunks” or violence, you could just sit and enjoy. Thank you Canfor for sharing with the City of Prince George!
You have strange dogs, BCRacer ….. they scream??? LOL.
I have never heard of a dog getting the shakes from fire engines, etc. Our dog’s entire body shakes for up to about half an hour after the noise stops.
Amazing story line, poor puppies, sarc on.
Get New Gold to pay for the show next year. They are putting a mine in the area and are spending millions to do it. I am sure they could fork up 10-30k for a good show with there name on it.
Now if we could only get the Rednecks to stop blowing them off until 1am July 2nd!
Beautiful fireworks….way to go P.G.!!!
Thanks Canfor for stepping up.
On the dog front, if you are a dog owner and you take your dog to a fireworks display, then your dog has an idiot for an owner. My dog hates them so she stays at home. I was at a Canada Day display in the Okanagan a few years ago and this guy shows up with his dog. 10 seconds in and the dog is going ballistic. The guy sat there for 2 hours to get a good seat only to have to leave 10 seconds in to the show because of his dog and it’s natural instincts and excellent hearing.
I didn’t go to the display last night as it’s usually heavy traffic, pot smoking teenagers and general bad behaviour. Not by all but enough where I don’t need to subject my family to it.
It was a beautiful display. It was nice to have them on the hill, because you could see them from many spots. We managed to find a spot with just us, so we didn’t have to be among the “pot smoking teenagers and general bad behavior.”
Thank you, Canfor.
Thanks for the Canada Day fireworks, Canfor. I have missed having a good fireworks display very much and really appreciated the show last night. I grew up in the lower mainland and miss enjoying the big fireworks in the harbour.
On the topic of pets and fireworks, I live in College Heights and know that every Halloween, I need to keep my animals indoors during the trick-or-treat time and when the local fireworks go off – it works just fine with my 3 animals. I lock the cats in a basement room where the noise is minimized and the dog stays home while we go to the field.
We parked in Parkwood and saw folks with dogs in their cars – not bright!
Yes, it was lovely display and thanks to Canfor for donating the money for the shells.
But it takes a team to organize the display. Pyro techs and many helpers started early in the afternoon and spend hours prepping and getting ready.
Security people who helped to ensure the safety of all involved. City staff and Fire Department on stand by.
Planning for a new location, so the display could be seen throughout the City, in order to eliminate the need for huge crowds to gathering in one location, therefor hopefully bypassing all the other issues mentioned by other posters.
I would like to express my sincere Thanks to everyone who was involved in delivering this year’s Fireworks Display
The idea of putting them off Connaught Hill was great and even greater for those that cannot get to different places to see them…..a lot of older people could just see them from their own residences which was so nice for them…..great idea to have them there!
Was a great show, excellent location, enjoyed seeing new and unique effects. Thanks to Canfor for tying your party in with the bigger picture and in a city that has been good to you for 75 years…seems like a real no brain’er IMO. Yeah, can’t not get a dig in…was good to feel like a grown up city with a community fireworks show again, you know a little community building exercise for the great unwashed in return for taxes paid. Council, maybe take note of this miniscule expense in the big scheme of things as you all go into your secret meetings about how to manage my money. Damn, there it goes again, must be in a bad mood today. Just sees to be in the air in PG these days.
