Multiple Housing Starts Key Performer in P.G.

Thursday, July 11, 2013 @ 3:57 AM
Prince George, B.C. – If it weren’t for an increase in the number of multiple unit starts last month in Prince George, the overall number of housing starts would be well below last year’s figures for June and for the first 6 months of the year.

In June, there were 15 single family dwelling starts. That is just one more e than the number recorded in June of 2012.   When it came to multiple family dwelling starts, there were 50 such starts last month, compared to just 2 in the same month last year. Overall, it meant there were 65 housing starts in June of 2013, compared to just 18 starts in June of 2012.

June’s performance for multiple family dwelling starts was also key to boosting the year to date stats to a level pretty much on par with last year’s performance.

For the first six months of 2013, there had been 57 multiple family starts compared to 40 in the same period last year. The number of single family dwelling starts during that period was 48, down from the 63 recorded in the first six months of 2012.

The bottom line is , that during the first six months of 2013, there have been 105 housing starts, just two more than the 103 recorded by the end of June in 2012.
