Province Moving to Electronic Hunting Licences

Prince George, B.C. – When hunting season arrives in 2015, hunters will be able to get their licences on line, at least that’s the target the Provincial Government is shooting for.
The Province has issued a Request for Proposals to build the electronic system that will allow access 24/7 to buy licences or apply for a Limited Entry Hunting opportunity.
In addition to improved access, the new system will assist the Province in collecting data in a more timely fashion that can be used when making wildlife management decisions.
Hunting generates $9.2 million in licencing revenue for the Province and contributes between $500 and $700 million in economic activity.

I’m not sure about hunting licenses, but I buy my fishing license electronically here in Ontario. It works great and U can save it as a PDF so that I can print it out whenever I want (if I lose it or it gets wet and ruined, no problem).
And just how much is this electronic system going to cost to put into place? If it ain’t broke—
I buy my license on line to see one movie at a local theatre at a specific time …. and also my airplane seat license ….. which does not need to be printed …. just show ’em on a smart phone …. ;
Is this really something new and amazing? Or does this just show us how behind the times government really is?
Hey, that’s the good ole PG City Hall spirit there sjm …… if it ain’t broke ….
When we have surrounded ourselves with all this computing power and telecommunication power while we continue to require everyone to come to a desk in person with a car over a roadway spending money for gasoline in order to get a piece of paper ….. well, I would call that a broken system …. or at least a system that is not taking advantage of saving opportunities that we have built for ourselves but do not take advantage of.
“but I buy my fishing license electronically here in Ontario” .. I’ve been doing that here in BC for the last several years. The same system would easily work for hunting licenses.
Kind of like trucking in hog for your clean energy system hey Gus!
Cool I wonder how many more anti hunters will apply for limited entry draws and not use them.
“while we continue to require everyone to come to a desk in person with a car over a roadway spending money for gasoline in order to get a piece of paper” .. well the reality is most people get thiers when they are already out and about and don’t make a special trip for it.
If the booth is not at the place I buy my groceries, believe me, it is a special trip.

As usual, most of the resistance will come from the people who don’t like change.
