Prince George, BC – It appears wildfire smoke from the Yukon may have arrived in the airshed over Prince George a few hours earlier than predicted…
Several calls have come into 250News over the past hour or so reporting the distinct smell of smoke in the air, but it does not appear to have a local source.
Prince George Fire Centre Information Officer, Dustin Eno, says there is one small forest fire burning approximately 50-kilometres northeast of the city, but it has not had much acitivity of late.
Eno says the wildfire smoke forecast for Western Canada is projecting smoke to move into the region from fires burning in the north later this evening and it may be that it arrived a few hours early.
Right now, the city’s air quality reading at the Plaza 400 downtown for fine particulate matter is 2.7 micrograms per cubic metre, up slightly from the 24-hour rolling average of 1.7, but the Air Quality Health Index reading remains in the low risk range.
