It’s OK, it’s the police!

Good chance too that the officers will lie about the entire thing, despite clear video evidence of an abomination of justice and flagrant abuse of power, and be exonerated by the courts. Hey what’s good for the RCMP is good for the TPD, right?

Another “free one”. Ian Bush, Fred Quilt, Dudley George, Robert Dziekanski at the airport and on and on. Many more. Starting to speak volumes, IMO.

dont know where you saw the clear video evidence … you must be either reffering to the cell vid floating around … or the security cam on the store front …. fact of the matter is the kid was in possesion of 2 weapons … the knife that held little threat … and the fully operational bus … the store front security cam footage even tho is has no audio you could see the kid stepping toward the front .. possibly the drivers seat … if he hit the pedal .. alot more danger to the TPS and the public. the bus driver stayed there .. got up .. went back to the seat quickly and then buggered off … I dont think he managed to grab the key switch since all the bus’ lights were still on. the cell phone Cam that was taken from a considerable distance away … has sketchy audio at best and really shows nothing …. I will wait untill the CCTV footage from the bus is released… yes all TTC vehicles are equiped with CCTV on a 15 hour loop … then I will pass judgement.

little food for thought .. 2 years ago a TPS member was killed by a stolen snowplow … the accused was found not criminally responsible due to mental illness just this past March … let that tidbit stew around for a while

When you have 5 or 6 police guns trained on you with them yelling “drop the knife”…you should probably do what they say? Unless you are either high as a kite or want then to shoot. Suicide by police is quite common in the states, like everything else, this practice is moving North.

Inflammatory cartoon and in bad taste imho. Bowzone makes good points. The guy who had the best view, was the cop that shot him. If kid rushed with knife and cops back up and he got off bus, shooting him without endangering bystanders difficult, if kid got control of bus, mayhem ensued. Do you cop haters really think this cop woke up that morning and said – hope I get to kill some kid today – that’ll get my juices going. Maybe the reason it took nine shots, is the cop didn’t go for center mass, and instead tried to hit limbs, and the kid just kept on coming or going. Who knows. But would be nice to at least go through the formality of an inquiry before we toss this cop to the wolves.

9 bullets? Very extreme me thinks

A smack on the side of the head with a billy club would do the job.

How do the British Police manage to function without guns??

Let’s see three shots, pause, see he is down, yep six more for good measure might as well empty the mag. Here’s the taser dude let him have go since he is eager.

So what is wrong with that? Seen it done on tv cop shows

Just what kind of neanderthal training goes on anyway?

Absolutely tasteless caricature of a family’s tragedy, and a citys tragedy, are there no ethical standards for journalism?

While I generally agree with Bowzone and Ski’s comments, I can’t help but think the cop’s reaction to a kid not obeying orders was far, far too extreme. True though, that we who were not there should not judge the cop’s actions based on over eager reporters and grainy cell phone videos.
One thing I am sure of, the cop is regretting his actions (I hope he is, anyway)
metalman.

Notice in the video a female cop was standing there with her arms crossed, hardly looking threatened.

Over use of force? Yes. Bringing a knife to a gun fight probably not a good idea, but bring a knife he did. Ask your self, would I get caught in that situation? If the answer is no, maybe give the police a bit of a break. Plus, we have raised most of the police of today on very violent video games…what do we expect?

Cops DO NOT want to kill people, they want to do their job with as little violence as possible.
I agree with bowzone and ski50, very little information but CBC has done a great job of sensationalizing and inciting people IMHO.

You nor I want to kill people, the psychological pain, the nightmares will be there for life and no one wants that.
There are those in uniform who slip through the cracks all over the world, more so in other countries. Why can’t people understand that they are not the triers of fact, and allow the truth to come out as it will, instead of bleating their bull without enough information.

The officer in charge of use of force at the BC Justice institute made comments today on Yahoo – pointing out that contrary to action movies, bullets disappear into the clothing of the one shot and there isn’t some dramatic blood spray, and if he kept coming at the cop after the first group of shots, the officer could have believed he’d actually missed him and shot again. He also pointed out that police officers are ordinary people who have gone through training, but are still just people and there is no way to know how they will react given the situation.

What I wonder is, the issue seems to be how many times he was shot. Would it have been different if the officer did a headshot, killing him with the first bullet. Would we all be okay with it then. Because then the story would have been, he moved toward officer with knife, officer thought he was in danger, officer shot once – in the head – and killed him.

Same officer commented the space of 10 feet can be covered in less than a second by a lunging person, so you don’t get a lot of time to make decisions.

All this said, I’m not saying this cop is guiltless, and may have totally screwed up. I just don’t like the default position taken cops – bad, punk kid who threatened passengers with knife, and cop with knife – good.
