Two Wildfires in Region

Wednesday, July 31, 2013 @ 7:25 PM
Prince George, B.C. – Plenty of lightning activity in the region, and it may be responsible for sparking a couple of wildfires.

Crews from the Prince George Fire Centre are attending a small wildfire north of Vanderhoof this hour, and a helicopter is en route to a wildfire reported in the Slim Creek area east of Prince George. The Slim Creek fire is visible from Highway 16 says Dustin Eno,   media spokesperson for the Prince George Fire Centre. It is not yet known how large the Slim Creek fire may be. That information should be available later this evening.

The dry conditions and lightning make for a dangerous combination, but with nearly half of all wildfires caused by human activity, once again the call is out for people to be extremely careful in the back country this long weekend.

While there are no restrictions in the Prince George Fire Centre, open burning is not allowed in the Coastal, Kamloops, Southeast or Cariboo Fire Centres. While campfires no larger than 1/2 meter by 1/2 meter area still permitted in all regions, there   is to be no burning of waste, slash or other material , nor is there to be any   burning of stubble or grass in the areas where the open burning restrictions are in place.

Throughout the Prince George Fire Centre, the fire danger rating ranges from low to extreme.

Just checked forestry website. Don’t know the parameters they use to ban fires in our area, but c’mon, the bush is dry, don’t need airheads starting one.
Don’t get me wrong, I love campfires as much as the next person, but a few always screw it up for the responsible ones.
I hope the ministry bans them now, lightning is gonna happen, don’t need to add to it.

Let it burn…
