Prince George, B.C. – Police forces across the province are out trying to ensure the public’s safety this weekend, and North District Traffic Services has a full complement of officers on area highways to do just that.
The B.C. Day long weekend is one of the busiest of the year and unfortunately an average of four people are killed and
more than 500 injured province-wide on this particular weekend each year. ICBC says in the north, the weekend produces 110 collisions resulting in 30 injuries each year.

North District Traffic Services Staff Sergeant Pat McTiernan says “We are trying to get all our available Traffic units on the road to increase police visibility on the highways and increase the chance of apprehension should anyone drive in an aggressive manner, placing the lives of others at risk.” He says the focus will be on issues which contribute directly to fatal and serious injury crashes, including aggressive driving, impaired driving, distracted driving and failing to wear seatbelts.

Police ask that if you witness erratic driving behavior, call the RCMP and report it. The goal is to make sure everyone has a fun, enjoyable holiday weekend and gets home safely.

And if you do see erratic driving and report it, when you see the person pulled over further down the road pull over also and provide a witness statement. It might add another 15 minutes to your trip but completely worth it.
What’s with all of the idiots driving around with their dogs on their laps? This is certainly every bit as distracting as answering a cell phone call.
Why are the police not ticketing people for this??
