Prince George, BC – Hill climbers were treated to a refreshing drink as they crested University Way in the sunshine on Thursday afternoon…

Personal trainers and staff members from the Northern Sports Centre were standing by to congratulate those who’d made the ascent and encourage them to tackle the hill again, as part of the 2nd Annual Storm The Hill event in one month’s time. (photo courtesy NSC)

NSC Communications Officer, Scott McWalter, says, "We’re working to get as many people from the community involved as possible – we really think a healthy community is a productive community."

"It doesn’t matter if people want to walk or run in the event," he says, "It’s just about getting out, being active, and enjoying the post-race barbeque afterwards."

Storm The Hill gives participants three race options:  a 5km run, a 10km run, or a sprint duathlon that involves a 5km run, 20km bike ride, and another 5km run.  The event is open to everyone, including children – although participants must be at least 16 years of age to compete in the duathlon.

Last year, STH was held mid-August, but has been moved to September 8th this year, in part, to help welcome UNBC’s new and returning students back into the community.  McWalter says the date change appears to be be boding well for turn-out, with registration numbers – like the race course – climbing.

A map of each race event (they all start and end at the Northern Sports Centre and involve the hill) and more information is available at www.facebook.com/NorthernSportCentre and registration forms can be found on the Stride and Glide website.
