Spate Of Break-and-Enters Prompts RCMP Warning

Monday, August 12, 2013 @ 3:58 AM

Prince George, BC – RCMP are warning city residents and business owners to take extra precautions in securing their premises in light of a rash of break-and-enters over the past several days.

Prince George Media Relations Officer, Corporal Craig Douglass, says officers have responded to 26 incidents throughout the city since Wednesday.  He says the Spruceland and Pinewood areas have been hardest hit, as has the BCR Industrial site.

Corporal Douglass says, "There are indicators that a number of these offences are likely being carried out by the same person or persons, and that a truck or van is likely being used."  The break-ins are occurring at all different times of the day.

"Residential properties have had doors kicked in or suspects have entered through open windows," says Douglass.  "The thieves seem to be (targeting) flat screen TVs and laptop computers in residences."  The thieves have cut through chain link fences to gain access to commercial and industrial properties.

With the continued warm weather, investigators are reminding residents to close and lock all doors and windows when they leave home, saying this may be enough to cause the culprits to overlook your property.  They’re also asking people to be a good neighbour and report any nearby suspicious activity.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call the local detachment at 250-561-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
