Prince George, B.C. – RCMP are issuing a warning following what appears to have been a random attack on a woman.
Monday afternoon, a woman was walking the trail system in the Edgewood Terrace area off North Nechako Road. She told police she had been attacked from behind and assaulted. She suffered non life threatening injuries, was treated at University Hospital of Northern B.C. and released.
The suspect is described as:
- Caucasian male
- Mid thirties
- Wear a white top and sunglasses
Police say it appears this was a random act without any motive. The investigation is continuing.
Police are passing along some safety tips :
· Always walk in groups of two or more
- Always advise someone where you are going and how long you will be
- Vary your route, don’t be predictable
- Avoid the use of ear/head phones
- Always run/walk in areas that you are familiar with, preferably non isolated public areas
- Be sure the area has more than one route so that you don’t get cornered
- Be aware of your surroundings constantly and don’t be distracted by cell phones
- Bring a noise maker such as a whistle
Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-8477, online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca(English only), or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637) using keyword "pgtips".

We got an elderly relative, a mini airhorn.
The size that fits in pocket/purse. Would work too.
You can get “dog” pepper spray at Northern Hardware for about $15.00. It also fits in a purse – and hey, it works on more than just dogs.
“Avoid the use of ear/head phones”
Tell that to the manufacturers of the devices. It is dangerous to walk with them just as it is dangerous to drive with them and other electronic gadget.
Also, avoid texting, talking on phones, etc. etc. As in driving, attention is taken away from being aware of your surroundings, whether someone is calling out to you because you dropped something or someone else is in danger and is tooting their airhorn, etc.
Above all else, think about your safety.
A snub nosed 38 special in the perps groin will most certainly give a change of heart. The confidence exuded by a person protecting his/her self well not be lost on the attacker.
Whelen,
You are aware of our fire arms laws and justice system in the country? If the victim shot the attacker or even pointed a fire arm the victim would be charged..
Sometimes there is no way of winning..
Cheers..
This is why my dog comes with me everywhere. Stop and talk to me, fine, but stay back. He’ll sit right beside me no problem. Make a move toward me, even to shake hands, and he won’t be letting you anywhere near me unless I say so.
As a single female it’s pretty bad that we have to think of ways to protect ourselves. And for those of us who don’t have a dog, to have to pack around bear spray, whistle, etc. is absolutely ridiculous. If there was more of a punishment for people committing these acts it might be more of a deterrent.
Northman
Comes down to this, dead/raped right or alive wrong, its a choice. You can do all the “bear/prevy perp aware” type things suggested for self protection, this would certainly help reduce the potential, but the potential still exsists. A 38 is a non-submissive device to thwart the human threat.
Not assaulting vunerable people could be added to that police list of tips for a safer community.
Heres a hypothetical for y’all.
Which of these two scenarious is more likely to happen:
Attacker runs towards armed woman who pulls out her gun and successfully thwarts the assualt
OR
Innocent jogger in a warm up hoodie runs towards armed woman and gets blown away in fear
?
interceptor…
Is the scenerio taking place in the USA?
If Yes.. Innocent jogger gets blown away.
If No. Armed woman successfully thwarts assault but gets charged under criminal code for firearms offence but survives..
Oh Canada eh…
What do you think the chances are – if caught, the perp will be: “Known to police” “at the time of offense out on release under conditions” “will be held until next court appearance” “released at next court appearance under really really strict conditions”
Sooo, my question is – why are bad people wandering the streets under conditions – like the one who attempted to rob that place out on Chief Lake road – instead of in jail.
My theory, is we have limited jail space, because our jail system is very expensive to maintain because of it’s emphasis on rehabilitation – not deterrence, or protection of the public.
I wonder if it would be possible to have two jail systems – system one – like the current system for first time offenders, and offenders that show a reasonable hope of rehabilitation – system two – something like the gulags they had/have in Russia – if you’re a hard case, that’s where you go, because we aren’t ever going to be able to fix you, so the longer you’re gone, the safer we’ll all be, and we aint spending a lot of money on keeping you.
No simple answers, but there’s got to be something better than what we’re doing?
Again the cops issue warnings to potential victims. No use in issuing warnings to potential bad guys. One day in jail, eighteen months probation and a firearms ownership ban for ten years. IF they are caught. Is that a deterrent or what, eh?
Better to be judged by 12 than carried by six.
It has been pointed out to us that the proper number to consider in the event of violent aggression is “911”- if you are of the rabbit people. Others will do better to place their faith in the number “1911”.
ice says put em on ice with the judge concealed carry permits should be mandatory in this country!!! or maybe it is just natures way predator vs prey oh I know lets go declaw all the cougars and there will be more deer disarm all citizens and all women become the prey doesn’t make sense.
All this talk about snub nosed 38’s in the groin, 1911 Smith & Wesson’s, disarm all citizens and all women become the prey…
My profiling skills tell me the one’s making those suggestions are all men. Hey I know, given that all of these assaults involved men attacking women, how about we just get rid of all men, that would definitely make the women in this city safer.
Pie-In-the-sky thinking, I know, but far better than the preposterous notion of arming ALL citizens. Bring on more Sandy Hook Elementary gun show and tell events if that happens!
Genius thinking… to prevent assaults on women arm ALL Citizens and put everyone, including our children at risk.
