Fire Restrictions to Be Lifted in PG Fire Centre

Tuesday, August 20, 2013 @ 9:24 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Effective noon today, campfires and all open fires will be allowed throughout the Prince George Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

The risk of wildfires has decreased because of the recent rainfall.

The size of a campfire must meet regulations in that they must not be larger than a half metre wide, by a half metre high.

If you light a campfire, you must also have a handtool  ( such as a shovel) or at least eight litres of water nearby to fully extinguish the campfire.

Burn registration numbers are required for anyone lighting a Category 3 fire which is:

·        material piled more than two metres high or 3 metres in width,

·        stubble or grass   over more than 2,000 square metres, or

·        more than two piles of any size.

Again, anyone lighting  a fire must have sufficient personnel, water and tools on hand to ensure the fire is contained.
