Hudson’s Hope, B.C. – A dramatic cliffhanger of a rescue by the Hudson Hope RCMP and Fire Department had a very happy ending for Lilly the Yellow Lab.
The dog had spent Saturday night on a narrow ledge, 50 feet above the Peace River. She had either tumbled, or wandered, about 200 ft down an embankment along the Peace River and would not leave her perch.
Around 2 Sunday afternoon, Hudson’s Hope RCMP got a call , asking if they could help.
The Hudson’s Hope RCMP fired up the detachment’s jet boat, got to the location, where an RCMP officer and two Hudson’s Hope firefighters tried to get Lilly to come down on her own. The rescuers worked diligently in less than perfect conditions, given the Peace’s heavy currents and high winds blowing down the river valley that day. Despite numerous attempts and gentle coaxing, Lilly the 2 year old Labrador retriever would not leave the safety of her perch.
The rescuers returned with a ladder and rope at which time RCMP Cst Bernier was able to climb up the side of the river bank and get a rope around Lilly. Lilly was led gently from the slope and brought down to the river’s edge, where she was re-united with her worried but ecstatic owner.
Despite being out on the side of the river overnight and being exposed to sun and wind for the entire day, Lilly just needed a dip in the river and a nice long drink of water. She only suffered minor abrasions. As a bonus, Lilly and her owner got an RCMP boat ride to the nearest boat launch and were sent on their way home safe and sound back to Chetwynd.

Very cool
And hopefully Lily learned her lesson from wandering out of bounds and got stuck with the rescue bill!
Now now, dog gone it, don’t be so bitchy.
It sounds like she had a ruff night.
Thank goodness the emergency services in THAT area were on point for a rescue.
Only in Ottawa!
LOL Loki.
Dragonmaster, please tell me that you understand sarcasm when you see it . . .
Nice comfy story for Chetwynd.
Here in PG we get a no for an answer in helping animals and backlash from citizens and governing bodies figuring it is not their job….Only in PG you say?
