Team Connolly Knocks Off Team Hamhuis in Cougars Black and White Game.
Monday evening in Prince George, the Prince George Cougars wrapped up their 2013 Training Camp with a Black and White intra-squad game in front of a fair-sized crowd at the CN Centre. Team Connolly (Black) defeated Team Hamhuis (White) 3-1 on the strength of two-point games from Troy Bourke and Alex Forsberg.
The first period ended with the score tied at zero. Both Mac Engel (Hamhuis) and Matt Kustra (Connolly) made some timely saves to keep their team equal. Engel made a phenomenal save on an early Connolly power play, and Matt Kustra made a timely glove save later in the period off of Zach Pochiro.
Early in the second Connolly broke the ice when Alex Forsberg and David Soltes skated in two-on-one. Forsberg flipped the puck across to Soltes who buried it past Mac Engel. 1-0, Connolly led. Troy Bourke added the second assist on the Soltes marker.
Halfway through the second period, goaltender Ty Edmonds replaced Mac Engel for Hamhuis while Brett Zarowny took over for Matt Kustra for Connolly. Edmonds was barely settled when Kody McDonald raced down the right wing and snapped a shot just inside the left post to make it 2-0 for Connolly.
Late in the second period, Connolly scored their final goal. Once again it was Troy Bourke and Alex Forsberg teaming up for a highlight reel play. Alex Forsberg spun off a defender inside the left circle and somehow threaded the pass right to the stick of Bourke, who made no mistake from in close.
Two minutes into the third period, Hamhuis cracked the scoreboard when 16-year-old forward Aaron Boyd skated across the blueline and fired a wrist shot on goal that just trickled past Brett Zarowny and in. Brad Morrison and Nicholas Fidanza assisted.
Team Hamhuis had more than their share of chances on the power play, but couldn’t click, going zero-for-seven. Team Connolly went zero-for-four on the other end.
Next up for the Cougars, a trip to St. Albert, AB next weekend for their first two preseason games of their season. Approximately 30 players will stay in Prince George and practice with the team this week before heading East to Alberta.
The Prince George Cougars would like to thank each and every fan who attended tonight’s game. Fans will get their next home look at the Cougars on Friday September 6th when the Cougars host the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Good for you.
Beer is too costly and not taste good-
Get BUD-than it may be worth it.
Clock was not level and missing some panels-lights shining right in eyes.
I heard they had an attendance of about 500, which is pretty good for an intersquad game.
