Vancouver Airport Facing Strike Threat

Prince George, B.C. – Labour Day weekend travel plans could be in jeopardy if those plans involve a flight to, or connections through the Vancouver Airport.
The airport has been served 72 hour strike notice from the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees, which represents 300 workers at the Vancouver Airport. The workers provide such services as passenger loading, runway maintenance, general maintenance, international arrivals customer care, emergency response, and administration.
The Union had conducted a strike vote in early August, and 83% voted in favour of strike action.
The main stumbling blocks in the contract negotiations are said to be wage concessions and contracting out.
Comments
Airport security does not take threats lightly.
Highly unlikely that they will go on strike, however if they do they have Abbotsford, and Seattle, Edmonton, Calgary, for back up, so they can probably get by for a while.
