Road Safety During Last Hurrah Of Summer
Prince George, BC – As British Columbians get set to enjoy the ‘last hurrah’ before a return to busier schedules, ICBC is reminding motorists the Labour day long weekend is a dangerous one on the province’s roads.
On average, four people are killed and 560 injured in crashes that occur across the province over the course of the next three days. In the North Central region, an average of 20 people are injured in 120 crashes each year.
ICBC’s Director Road Safety, John Dickinson, is asking drivers to plan ahead to avoid distractions behind the wheel. "If you’re using GPS, program it before you head out and if you must use your cellphone, ask your passengers to make or receive calls for you, so that you can keep your full attention on the road."
"We all need to make smart driving decisions this long weekend to keep BC roads safe," says Chair of the BC Association of Chiefs of Police Traffic Safety Committee, Chief Constable Jamie Graham. "You may think that by speeding, you’re cutting down on your travel time, but what you’re really doing is decreasing your reaction time and putting everyone on the road at risk."
Graham says police will be out across the province looking for unsafe drivers.

Leave your phones at home!
Be safe guys and gals.
Man has there been a lot of police nicking drivers.
What’s the point of having a phone if I leave it at home???
What’s the point of having a phone while driving? If you must take your little toy with you in your car, turn it off until you need it. There aren’t any excuses for using your phone while driving!
He spoke: That’s good! Maybe the message will start getting through to some of them.
Must be nice to be able to cut yourself off from the world any time you want. Enjoy retirement or being on welfare or your clock punching job or watching the world move on without you.
You idiots act like there were no accidents before cell phones & that everyone is using them for pointless crap while driving. Get over it. Accidents are caused by shitty drivers, not phones or half a beer.
Lol weaksauce your argument is weak. Please explain why you think that people are so important that they need to talk on their phone while driving? It’s a known fact that distracted driving deaths are up and what do you think causes that weaksauce?
Nothing and I mean nothing and no one is so important the they need to put their lives and other people’s lives in danger because their little toy started to buzz!
