CUPE Results Near

Monday, September 9, 2013 @ 3:56 AM
Prince George, B.C. – We could learn as early as today, if the inside and outside workers for the City of Prince George, are in favour of strike action to back their contract demands.

Late last week, the members of CUPE locals 1048 and 399 voted on the latest contract offer from the City, and on whether they would support a strike.

The details of the contract offer have not been released. Negotiations have been underway for 7 months and the very fact the workers were asked if they would support strike action, would suggest the offer is not one the Union leaders would recommend the membership support.

The results of the votes had to be delivered to the City’s Human Resources department before the being made public, so it is possible the results could be released later today.

Local 1048 has 364 members while Local 399 is comprised of 148 outside workers. Their last contract expired at the end of 2012.

It would have been nice if the city council would have led by example…..

Will say this again…City workers look at your wages and benefits and tell me where else you can find a job that pays you as much as you are making now? I realize their are a few positions that could go to other places of employment and make more e.g. the electricians, but a good percentage of the union staff make really good money with normal working hours and great benefits.

Bornandbred- In fact the City of Prince George is FAR from considered in the upper pay scale for municipalities…..when kids are driving 70,000$ trucks and making 50-60$ and hour working in camps and coming home to PG and buying houses City employees are budgeting paycheck to paycheck, get your facts straight! 75% of the Citys payroll is on the 5th floor of City hall with the human resources folks taking home ABSURD salaries, not the rank and file workers. Be curious to know what you consider, as you say “Really good Money”?? Union staff make REALLY GOOD MONEY…..Hummm…could you quantify that? Because trust me, they are making marginally fair money at best!
