Prince George, B.C.- Members of the Steelworkers, local 1-424, at Canfor lumber operations throughout the region, are holding a strike vote today and tomorrow.
“We are seeking a strike mandate in order to have that backing as we negotiate with Canfor for a satisfactory agreement we can bring back to our membership” says local 1-424 President Frank Everett.
The last contract expired at the end of June. There are about 1500 Canfor workers who are represented by the Steelworkers local 1-424.
The Canfor negotiations and resulting contract will form the “pattern agreement” for negotiations with other forestry companies.
