Prince George, B.C.- The Regional District of Fraser Fort George has paid its respects to the late Allan Thomas “Tom” Briggs.
The former Mayor of Mackenzie passed away September 7th, having lost his battle with cancer. He was 74 years old.
Briggs had served on Mackenzie Council for 19 years, and was a Director on the Regional district of Fraser Fort George from 1997 to 2005. “He was a true gentleman” says Regional District Fraser Fort George Board Chair Art Kaehn. “For those who knew him, he was a quiet leader and he had an amazingly broad regional view of things. He made discussion in this board room go very easily.”
Mackenzie Mayor Stephanie Killam said Briggs, as Mayor, was “steady, calm he kept the community moving, he was a good solid citizen who loved Mackenzie.”
He is survived by his wife Karen, daughter Kimberly ( John Bennett and Liam) son Gregory (Susan, Orla and Nathan of Sylvan Lake) as well as a brother and four sisters.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 14 – 11:00 am St Peter’s Church in Mackenzie.
