Mayor and Most of Council To Attend UBCM
Monday, September 16, 2013 @ 3:59 AM

The only Councillors to take a pass on the event are Garth Frizzell and Frank Everett.
The four day event will see the Mayor attend today’s B.C. Mayors’ Caucus meeting, and Councillors attend a variety of sessions through the week, as well as attend one on one meetings with members of the Provincial Government Cabinet.
There will also be the election of Directors and the Executive. Councillor Murry Krause is in the running for a position as “Director at Large”.
Prince George had just one resolution on the docket this year, calling for a provincial commitment to technical and engineering education. The Regional District of Fraser Fort George did not submit any resolutions before the June 30th deadline.
There were just 156 resolutions submitted from BC communities and Regional Districts for approval before the June 30th deadline. That is the lowest number in a dozen years.
Some of the resolutions to be discussed include:
· calling on the Provincial and Federal Ministers of Justice to “make changes to allow consideration of the prolific nature of offenders during prosecution.”
· Health care improvements including rural physician recruitment and improved air ambulance service
· A call for Federal resources to inspect and control medicinal marijuana grow ops
· Change highway maintenance standards to “meet public safety needs”
· Funding for Hospice care
The keynote address on Wednesday morning will be delivered by Stephen Lewis.

So where is the keynote address by B.C.âs new auditor general for municipalities?
Those others are all involved with downloading and not providing enough money back to the municipalities to pay for providing the services which have been downloaded.

From the link: “of every tax dollar collected by municipalities, only eight cents is returned, while the province receives 42 cents and the federal government 50 cents.”
Nice.. a entire province of Mayors figuring out how to get more money out of us tax payers… just lovely.. and at what cost is this to us tax payers..?
They should all get fired for being so far from home and the issues at hand.
I look at it in a similar fashion as IPG.
A lot of us want to know not only what IPG has been doing and is going to do, but also what they have achieved in improving this City’s lot in life.
The same with Council. Many of us want to know what has been learned or what has been accomplished at the conference that has improved this City’s well being, especially those things which would not otherwise have been achieved.
Nothing springs to mind. One would think that at least one of them would come back all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed to let us all know that as a result of last year’s and this year’s convention we learned that we will be saving $750,000 in expenditures due to a new method of weed killing …… and street sweeping ……. by letting it all go without doing anything about them ….. ;-)
Why would so many go from Prince George when PG has only one resolution on the list? I realize other resolutions are being made that affect PG but I don’t think it required that many representatives to vote.
I used to fully support the Mayor and Concillors going to this, but now I am not so sure. As has been mentioned, one never hears what the taxpayer actually gets for the money spent on attending.
You get the privilege of watching your hard earned taxes being spent. Get yerself elected and change things. (He said with a chuckle).
I agree with most of the posters here what positive difference does it make to PG having most of council attend the UBCM?
