Prince George, B.C. – As the years go by the legend grows and each year people come out to support the cause of the legend by taking part, either on the course or by donation, in the search for a cure to cancer.
The final numbers are still to come for the local Terry Fox Run on Sunday, but people across the country and around the
world took part in this, the 33rd year of the event, to add to the more than $600 million already raised for cancer research through this run.

They walk, run, cycle, roller blade a 5-kilometre course that runs from the Terry Fox statue at Community Foundation Park to Fort George Park, and back again. And plenty, too young yet to know what’s going on, take a free ride in a stroller pushed by mom and dad. One such family is the Bockus family (pictured right) of Prince George. This was their very first Terry Fox run. Asked what inspired them to get involved, mom Toni said “Well, I’m into running and one of our friends had asked us to join on Facebook. We know a few people who take part.”
What are her thoughts about Terry Fox? “Well, I think he was a pretty heroic guy.” “Inspirational too,” says dad Shaun. Will you continue to take part after this year? “For sure, yes” he says. “Well Scott (new run organizer Scott McWalter) is a good buddy of ours, we went to school with him too so seeing somebody you know running these events inspires you to want to get involved too.”
And will they be passing the Terry Fox inspiration along to their daughter? “Oh she’s gonna be running in this every year now for the next hundred.”

Editor’s note: An addendum to our story. Scott McWalter says while organizers were looking for 500 participants in this year’s run, the actual number was 603 (along with 40 volunteers). Scott says "I am absolutely blown away at the response from the community. Although the mid-SDeptember beatiful weather obviously helped, I think that’s really a testament to what this Prince George community is all about. It really is no surprise that they come out and take part."
Scott says the final tally of the money raised won’t be out for a few days.
