Prince George, B.C. – The annual Thanksgiving Food Drive wrapped up on the weekend with more than 12,000 pounds of food being donated.
"We are pleased with the response," organizer Brice Gurney said. "And we are confident that we can do even more in the years ahead. Special thanks go out to the wonderful citizens of Prince George for being so supportive."
This was the 3rd annual Thanksgiving Food Drive in Prince George. Originally organized by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Burnaby, it has grown to become a province wide, multi-faith effort.
Special donation bags had been distributed in the community, and 234 volunteers collected those donations from more than 6500 residences.
People were also welcomed to drop off their donation at the Church at 5th and Voyageur. All of the food collected will be turned over to the Salvation Army in Prince George.
Nearby communities were also involved in the effort. Burns lake, Vanderhoof, Quesnel, Williams Lake, Hundred Mile House, and Bella Coola.
Regionally the efforts of 470 volunteers contributed nearly 1450 man hours of service, collecting over 29,000 pounds of food donated to local food banks.

Too bad they missed mine. Had 4 bags of food sitting out starting at 9am. When it hadn’t been picked up by 1, I phoned the number provided and left a message. Did it again at 4. Nothing.
Would have been really nice if the notice and/or voice mail and/or website provided a drop off location, was definitely willing to deliver.
Will donate elsewhere.
Wow @Fate, Listen to yourself!!
I would have like more than one evening to fill the bag. I know this sounds silly but when one’s household is running at full speed, things get put on the back burner to deal with later. This was one of those things and by the time I came to read that the pickup was the next morning from when I received the bag, it was already 1 day late. Just saying…
I really love this method of asking for donations though. Please do this again, just with a bit more notice :)
Thanksgiving is still 3 weeks away. Plenty of time to drop off your donation, either at the CLDS or the Salvation Army.
