Prince George, B.C. – City firefighters are extending a big thank-you to the generosity of the citizens of Prince George who turned out for their barbecue fundraiser at Hall #1 on Friday.

The firefighters served up a burger, chips and a pop for 5 bucks, with all proceeds going toward the construction of the Burn Fund House adjacent to the Burn Unit at Vancouver General Hospital. The facility will house the families of out-of-town patients who are being treated for burn-related injuries. Professional firefighters right across B.C. have been holding all sorts of fundraisers over the years to see the house built, and are approximately three-quarters of the way toward their goal.

Prince George firefighter Trent Blair says yesterday’s burger barbecue was a resounding success, raising just over $1,550.   And that was accomplished in just four hours.  “Every hot dog, hamburger event, every dunk tank every charity event goes to the Burn House in Vancouver. This is one of our big charity events. We have Muscular Dystrophy and we have the Burn Fund, those are our two big fundraisers.”

Blair says more events are in the works between now and Christmas, as well as in the New Year right up to about the end of May, when people start preparing for summer vacations.   The firefighters resume their fundraising each fall.
