Haldi Road Court Challenge to Be Heard Today

Tuesday, October 1, 2013 @ 4:06 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The Haldi Road case which takes on the City of Prince George over an amendment to the Official Community Plan, will be heard today.

The residents argue the amendment to the Official Community Plan which paved the way for a rezoning of a piece of property is invalid. They are asking the court to quash the amendment because  it is “internally inconsistent with respect to policies affecting land located in Rural B areas of the City and cannot be consistently applied.”

They are also asking the court to quash a policy statement,  because it “creates arbitrary and unpredictable planning considerations, contrary to the law” as  it allows Council to decide what densities would be appropriate.

The results of this court case will determine whether a proposed recovery centre for women would be allowed to move forward on property that was once the Haldi Road School. The residents have long argued   rezoning the site for institutional use is not in keeping with a rural residential lifestyle.

Good luck Haldi Road residents in your fight against corruption and back door deals at City Hall. This fight is for all the good citizens of Prince George. The Green Team must be stopped.

“This fight is for all the good citizens of Prince George”

I agree and I think them all for doing it.

It is a travesty when people have to fight city hall to maintain their neighbourhood.

I think we need to have some understanding on who owns the neighbourhood.

We need a new understanding of what a “Neighbourhood Watch” is.

I’m surprised that comments are allowed considering its a matter before the courts. I’m not complaining. Just wondering.

Maybe because we all know the City is guilty. ;-)

Mayor and council were played like cheap fiddles, sold a bill of goods that it will help local women. As soon as it was clear that it would be rammed down the residents throats the business model changed and the facility would target West Van pill popping housewives with deep pockets.

I can see the advertising now ” beautiful rural setting that offers a peaceful place away from big city pressures to assist in the healing process”….just ignore neighbours who for some reason do not use their whole hand to wave, must be a quaint local custom.

I’m not a lawyer but is there a difference between “arbitrary and unpredictable planning considerations” and “for considerations”?

Fingers crossed for the Haldi residents!

I don’t think a court in the land would find them guilty….on the basis of reduced mental capacity:D

“This fight is for all the good citizens of Prince George” I agree Gus. Good luck to Haldi Road residents!

I hope sanity prevails and the residents win. I myself am peeved that the main street through our residential was re-assigned as an alternate truck route! There used to be No Truck Traffic signs on both ends of this street and there were numerous 50km/h signs on both sides. Then, very quietly and without any input from the residents the No Truck Traffic signs and the speed limit signs were removed.

Since then it has become a raceway, with heavy trucks and buses thundering through exceeding the speed limit by 25 or more km/h, including city vehicles and garbage trucks.

The city decides…the citizens are out of luck.

Good luck! It is shameful the way the city has pushed this through and I hope the Haldi residents win.
