Cougars Earn Split With the Royals.
24 hours removed from a 2-0 shutout victory Tuesday, the Prince George Cougars were on the receiving end of a shutout loss on Wednesday. Ben Walker broke a scoreless tie at 7:40 of the second period, and the Victoria Royals held off the Cougars 1-0 to earn a split of the mid-week double header. Patrik Polivka stopped all 28 shots he faced in goal, while Ty Edmonds turned aside 23 of the 24 he faced for Prince George.
Neither team capitalized in the first period but both teams had their chances. Ty Edmonds made a big early stop off of Logan Nelson, and Polivka denied Chase Witala on a breakaway to keep the game squared.
The game’s only goal came in the second period during a Cougars power play. The Victoria Royals forced a turnover at the Cougars blueline, and Brandon Fushimi slid the puck to Ben Walker to broke in alone on Ty Edmonds and beat him with a forehand deke for his first goal of the season.
The Cougars outshot Victoria 9-5 in the final period, but were unable to put the puck past Patrik Polivka, who earned his sixth career victory against the Prince George Cougars. The Cougars outshot Victoria 28-24 after 60 minutes.
Both teams went zero-for-three on the power play, but Victoria did have the shorthanded goal which proved to be the difference.
With the loss, the Cougars record falls to 3-4 while the Royals improved to 3-4 with their third road victory. The Cougars are now 2-2 on home ice, and will look to get back to .500 when they face the Kamloops Blazers on the road on Saturday night.

I realize the Cougars coverage here is completely biased, with a paid Cougar employee providing the game recaps and not an objective sports reporter…but why does 250News also provide the headlines that help promote what little positive news there is to promote with this sorry franchise?
I notice that when the Cougars win, the headline basically blares “Cougars Win!” but when the Cats lose–much more often than not, let’s be honest–the headline reads “Cougars Earn Split” or “Cougars Game Recap”. Why not just be honest and have the headline read “Cougars Lose!”
And how about reporting the dismal attendance figures so management has to keep reading publicly what everyone’s eyes already know…then maybe one year Christmas will come early and we’ll finally read about a change in the organization somewhere other than the coach?
