When it comes time for the WHL to name it’s goaltender of the week, Prince George Cougars rookie netminder Ty Edmonds deserves some serious consideration. Saturday night in Kamloops, Ty Edmonds turned aside all 27 shots he faced to earn his second shutout victory of the week. Jansen Harkins, Jordan Tkatch and Zach Pochiro supplied the goals for the visitors en route to the 3-0 victory.

After one period the game was still scoreless. Kamloops had two early power play chances that they didn’t capitalize on, and the Cougars were able to gain momentum from their successful penalty kill. Late in the period Joe Kornelson took a high-sticking double minor penalty, which set the tone for the second period.

Early in the second, the Cougars took advantage of their power play opportunity. Bolton Pouliot made an initial save off of Zach Pochiro, but rookie Jansen Harkins whacked home the rebound from the side of the goal to make it 1-0 Prince George. For Harkins, it was his first ever WHL goal.

Late in the second the Cougars struck again. Chase Witala fired a shot on goal from the right wing boards that deflected off of Jordan Tkatch’s stick and in to make it 2-0, For Tkatch it was his first of the season.

The Cougars took a 2-0 lead into the second intermission and outshot Kamloops 22-15 through the first 40 minutes.

Mid-way through the third, the Blazers thought they had scored their first of the game when Jesse Shynkaruk knocked home a puck from the goal-mouth area. But the officials decided that there was incidental contact with goaltender Ty Edmonds and the goal was disallowed.

From there, the Cougars took control by blocking shots and keeping the Kamloops Blazers in check offensively. Ty Edmonds was solid when called upon, and held off the Blazers for the remainder of regulation.

Zach Pochiro would score the game’s final goal into an empty net to make the game 3-0.

The Cougars finished one-for-five on the power play and killed off all five of Kamloops power play attempts. The Cougars have now killed off 18 straight penalties.

For Ty Edmonds, the dream start to his WHL career continues. His record improves to 4-1 and his goals against average for the season now sits at 1.68 with two shutouts. In his three starts this week, Edmonds only surrendered one goal against.

With the win, the Cougars record now sits at 4-4 and they lead the season series with Kamloops 2-1. The Cougars will return to action on Friday, October 11th at home against the Everett Silvertips.

Hey writer dude…your infatuation with this goalie aside, we only need his first name once eh? Every article you’ve written featuring this kid has his full name repeated no less than 5 times. A simple “Edmonds” would suffice at subsequent points in the article.

Way to go Cougars!

Must have been a refreshing change to play in front of a few more people, even if it was the opposition. 4100+ showed up in Kamloops.

Do you hate the cougars or just Brodsky?

What hate? I like the Cougars. I never missed a weekend game when I lived there and I still follow them. I’d rather chew broken glass then ever pay a cent to see the Giants.

If I bitch about them, I do so because of dumb decisions both on and off the ice. As a fan I am permitted this, no?

Are you one of those that think Brodsky runs a healthy hockey franchise in PG?
