Wowwww Everyone slept in ……no comments yet.
Anyhow, have a good long weekend

Does anyone no what the holdup is with the new connector . Looks like its ready to go .
Anyone tired of local stores :
Would you like to donate a dollar for the children [ or some charity ].
Would you like to round off the total and give your change.
Would you like to donate some food.
No ,No and No . I’m here to buy some groceries , not help your store look like a wonderful corporate citizen .[ although I’m not above giving at my discression ]Perhaps we should ask the cashier if the store would like to donate five bucks for gas to get home .OK I’m done . Have a great weekend all .

It’s already 6:30, and no pointless rant about how the city could be better, if only things were done according to Gus, or cut and paste lectures from Charles…. It’s a Good Friday so far!

Aksum that is why I donate to my fav charity personally. Save on and others get a great tax break for all the money they donate so why should we give them that write off? They make enough money already. I may not donate anything close to them with what consumers give them but at least I get the receipts to claim on my personal income tax.

Cherry1970cherry the first pointless rant!

Be safe this holiday weekend. Turn off your little toy before you get in your vehicle!

Mmmmmmm turkey

In my opinion…..A penny saved is a penny earned and my pennies count. So when the penny was discontinued I decided to pay cash if the penny was to my advantage and pay by debit card otherwise. Either way, I was saving “my pennies”. Recently I made a small purchase at a local store and since I rarely carry any cash I paid with my debit card (of course I was still saving my pennies) and the merchant told me that in the future they would no longer accept cash for any puchases under $5.00, and also told me that my purchase just cost him 35 cents. Whoa!! What??

If you’re travelling, be safe this Thanksgiving weekend. Don’t be a turkey with your smartphones and holiday cheer.

Whidbey Island, here I come. Penn Cove mussels at the Front Street Grill need to be afraid…. very afraid.

Oops…..got that backwards…..the merchant said that they will nt longer accept debit cards for purchases under $5.00….so Cash Only (which ultimately will collect on my pennies).

Have a great weekend everyone. Don’t forget the less fortunate than you on this Thanksgiving weekend.

Thirdkind…. did you mean to say they would no longer accept Debit for purchases under $5.00? That would make more sense. I’ve seen that a lot. Cash doesn’t cost them a red cent, but the banks charge merchants for every transaction. Worse for credit cards.

…. alrighty… slow on my keyboard… as you were.

argh again.. .not as YOU were slow, but …. return to as you were before….. one thing about typing… you can’t get the vocal inflections proper.

Time is going too fast for me. Especially the weeks. Any suggestions as to how I can slow it down? Be specific.

I have to give an acknowledgement to the Esso station on Domano and O’Grady, staying 10 cents a litre above just about everyone in town, and especially the Chevron right across the street.

And I still see people filling up at that Esso! Go figure.

Enjoy the weekend everyone! Get out and enjoy the awesome fall weather (And hopefully no rain).

With all the debate about the pros and cons of ‘legalizing marijuana’, I would like to put this out for your consideration. The government should enter into an agreement for a minimum of $1.5 Billion dollars annualy with the hells angels giving them the exclusive right to grow and deliver the marijuana to government approved sales locations. The government would sell the licenses to operate those locations similar to the cold beer/wine stores. The appropriate taxes would be paid at all levels of the process.

Can you imagine the savings to government (us the taxpayer) in hydro thefts, policing, enforcement, court and corrections costs. Perhaps then the police could get back to working to protect the public from real crimes. Plus, I am sure, that the hells angels would self-regulate the industry so that there would be no ‘unapproved’ grow ops.

Sure would help to balance the budget. have a great thanksgiving.

——————-

The Esso at Hwy 97 and Austin Road had been 9 cents a liter more then the Petro Can across the street. I say “had” because the last few times I drove by they have had their price sign turned off.

Harbinger, how to slow down the feeling of time going by.

Don’t go to sleep.

I agree with you askum I resent the guilt trip method of fundraising. I especially resent fundraising for things like the new children’s hospital. If we need a new hospital then government can do their job and build it. That’s what taxes are for.

On cash and debit cards. The bank charges 2% for cash deposits from business customers. That’s why Costco tries to give you cash back all the time and push their credit card. Cash is a pain for business’s. Debit cards if you shop around are about 10 cents per transactions. Reward credit cards can cost up to 3% to the merchant.

He spoke….Maybe if I get up earlier I might have more hours in my day. There’s an idea.

axman – you beat me to it, I was going to mention that. Amazing how thier price sign magically quit working when they stayed 9 cents above the competition across the street. I drove through on my way into the lot and checked the pump out of curiosity… If you are going to gouge at least be proud of it dont try to fool people into not noticing. So much for my Esso extra card, I am now in the habit of stopping elsewhere.

Re: charges on credit and debit cards. The credit card companies also charge the merchant who accepts their cards for payment a higher percentage of the transaction for their “premium” cards. The cards that offer points or cash back. So that’s something to think about when you pay with your “premium” credit card at a local business. The local business will be charged extra so you can have your points.

Thank you to all the posters above who wrote funny stuff. Much needed by me this morning. I really appreciate the humor. This site needs more of that :)

Harbringer: Only do activities that you hate doing and have a clock with a large display in your sight line at all times. Time will seem like it is crawling by….

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!!

Funny it’s the Esso stations that are keeping prices up??
God bless Costco…Bout flippin time…

Ya the price of diesel is awesome ;-)

Has anyone attended either of the two open houses held this week about the proposed new RS4 zoning? Narrow lot housing is their latest idea to build up the tax base in the bowl area.

Development Regulations:

Max. Site coverage increased to 50%
Building Height reduced to 9.0m

Subdivision Regulations:

Min. Lot Width decreased to 9.0m
Lot Area (min. – max) 300sq.m – 400sq.m

More info at City Hall and next 2 meetings are Oct. 15th at Heritage Elementary 5:30pm to 7:30pm and Oct. 17th at Ron Brent Elementary 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

I am going to attend on the 15th but am surprised there has been no coverage about this from the meetings already held.

Narrow lot housing? Hmmmmm. Time to talk to a mobile home salesman?

Happy Thanksgiving All

Eat all the turkey you can….I, on the other hand will be in sunny Las Vegas where the weather is still great, pools are open, liquor is cheap, entertainment is awesome…anyway…enjoy the weekend everyone.

Please slow down people!!I live at the bottom of an ‘S curve which has a caution suggested speed of 30 km/h Tet daily I have people riding my ass dangerously close without care. It is not how fast you get somewhere, it is thst you got there safely! Lately I feel like It is the Indy 500 just by the way people drive. We are heading into the slippery season, slow down and use your head!*vent over*

I didn’t hear anything about this narrow lot housing, the city is sure quiet about anything to do with rezoning and OCP amendments. Just read an article on the Citizen online and apparently they are considering rezoning and amending to OCP to sell the land by CN Center and allow a hotel complex.

“A special council meeting scheduled for Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. in council chambers will introduce the first two readings of a rezoning and official community plan amendment for a city-owned Ospika Boulevard property.
The application is being made to facilitate the sale of a one hectare lot, directly south of the CN Centre main entrance.
According to the OCP, the land is designated as parks and open space as well as neighbourhood corridor on the strip that fronts Ospika Boulevard.”

I think that if they were to keep is as parks, clean it up and put in some picnic tables, it would be more utilized by people in the area. Right now it’s just a location where local kids go to smoke pot and think they’re being sneaky about it.

Banner …. old stuff …. we did a proposal with full report and subdivision model for the Pinecone area in 1979 or so … it was approved by Council at the time but the developer went ahead with conventional housing.

That was in an era of rapidly escalating house prices prior to the 1981 crash. Affordable housing was the reason, not increase in tax base.

Just read the report on city site for the Ospika hotel proposal – it’s going to take over the gravel parking lot at CN Center. We desperately need traffic lights at 22nd and Ospika already, hopefully the traffic specialist person confirms the need will be greater with potentially higher traffic volumes. Even traffic lights at the entrance to CN center would be great.

Debit cards (Interac) per transaction is a nominal charge to the merchant of $0.15 per transaction and that depends on the service provider and transaction volume of the merchant per day. These rates can be lower depending on the service provider and the agreement with the merchant. With credit cards the merchant gets nailed several ways, a percentage of the transaction, a transaction fee per transaction and then the “special fee for the credit card companies “specialty cards” (avion, scene, airmiles etc.). So if you like your local merchant, be nice to them and pay with your Interac card (debit card). It’s safer than carrying a bunch of cash, safer for the merchant because they don’t have a pile of cash sitting around waiting to be deposited and for the meager 15 cents or less per transaction that the merchant loses due to accepting a debit card, it’s a small price to pay for being able to look after more clients safely.

Save the dumb assed MasterCards, Visa Cards, Amex cards for larger purchases some where else. They gouge small and medium businesses with transaction fees, some times those fees are reflected in the increased product price. Businesses can’t charge a surcharge for accepting those fancy credit cards to offset the cost of the transaction fees (it’s illegal) under the card acceptance agreement that all businesses must sign before getting a credit debit terminal.

Who da thunk ya but will it be organic?

There is a good example of what the RS4 zoning proposal might look like near 12th and Carney if anyone wants to take a look.

gus, I don’t think the reasons would be the same at this point in time as in 1979 when you say this idea was first proposed. No rapidly escalating house prices in 2013 and interest rates are nowhere near what they were in late 70’s early 80’s. Must be for other reasons.

axman: “The Esso at Hwy 97 and Austin Road had been 9 cents a liter more then the Petro Can across the street. I say “had” because the last few times I drove by they have had their price sign turned off. “

interceptor: “Amazing how thier price sign magically quit working when they stayed 9 cents above the competition across the street.”

Yeah, Esso should be ashamed of such tactics, but I know they’re not.

What is the issue with the RS4 zoning? I always thought that PG should have more diversified housing options for people who didn’t want to spend $450,000 on a 3,000 square foot home with a backyard to mow.

Regarding the RS4 narrow lot proposals Ass much as the haters and the conspiracy theorists would like to think that the City is being secretive about this, you should know that everyone who currently owns property or lives in the areas included in the proposal received letters from the City informing them about the proposal, the rationale behind it and an invitation to several community meetings to discuss it.
Far from being secretive that is getting the information to those that are affected and need to know. Someone living in College Heights or up the Hart really does not need to be personally informed about something that has no effect on their property, their neighborhood or their personal lifestyle.

If I’m not mistaken, by law they must advertise their pump prices in such a way the motoring public can see their price while driving by.

I believe you’re mistaken.

http://www.competitionbureau.gc.ca/eic/site/cb-bc.nsf/eng/01242.html

has this line, “Retailers usually post their prices on large street-side signs.” If it was a legal requirement I’m sure it would be worded differently.

Anyone having trouble with shaw phone/internet today?

Anyone having trouble with shaw phone/internet today?”

—————-

Apparently someone dug up a line somewhere in the Hart.

weaksauce there is a fibre optic issue in Williams Lake hence the reason for no phone or tv

peegee wrote: “Just read the report on city site for the Ospika hotel proposal”

I am a bit concerned about that for several reasons. There is the one point of view that businesses should be allowed to fail. Unless this hotel has a very special drawing card other than that there is an arena there and out of towners coming for events could be right there, get drunk at the hotel and arena and flop into bed.

It would be a destination hotel or a low priced motel. Do we really need the potential of a struggling motel/hotel at the entrance to the Arena and exhibition grounds?

I am sure they would want a liquor license for a pub/lounge/restaurant combination and compete with the pub across the street. Maybe it is even Jordy that is behind this. Maybe someone knows.

Hotels are located on regional and provincial/interprovincial highways and downtowns except for resort communities where they can be scattered in other parts of the communities with access to local trails, sports fields, and other attractions. We are, however, not a resort community,

Anyone having trouble with shaw phone/internet today?

Thanks guys. Sorry for the double post.

Welcome to Canada. Feel free to come here and take our jobs away.

I expect it would be a grand idea if City hall folk invested more time into getting the information out to ALL those that live in all areaes not just neighbouhoods. All citizens invest our fine City everyday.

I really do find it amazing that Pat Bell that was so ill that he couldn’t carry on as a MLA or Cabinet Minister, but has since making that announcement that he has excepted a directorship with a forest company and has started to develop a winery in PG. How can anybody ever believe a person talking out of both sides of his mouth like that. Just like he once said the temporary Chinese miners is Tumbler Ridge was a good thing and then said not it was a poor idea when the public showed their dislike for that program.

Mick, you are delving into the private life of an individual without knowing the reasons that individual has for doing the things he does.

I know one thing, he can go at his own pace and he is his own boss.

As I understand it, Pat had to remove some stress from his life.

Moving from working for others to working for oneself can be a major stress reliever.
