Another Trip For The Little Prince

Prince George, B.C. – So, are the kids sitting around the house crying the “Mom there’s nothing to do” blues?

Well here’s a suggestion. Take them down to Fort George Park, more precisely to the Exploration Place parking lot, and go for a ride on the Little Prince steam engine train.   We know about the sign at the railway office stating that the Labour Day weekend was the end of the season for the train. However, the weather has co-operated this weekend leading to the executive decision to get  back on the tracks for one final go.

Our photographer was out for a stroll at the park and ran into engineers John and Nick, who were getting the steam up to power the engine. They took the Little Prince for a test run Saturday morning and said there would be free rides on Thanksgiving Day Monday.

Be sure to dress warmly.

How Lovely! what a treat for the kids, and maybe some adults too! Thanks Exploration Place and Engineers…

Now if only we could have full-size passenger trains back…

I believe the sign said free rides courtesy of Admiral Roofing.

billposer, what passenger trains are you talking about? VIA rail runs passenger trains.

Definitely going to check this out one last time for the year. Also, thanks to whoever makes it possible for things like this to be free for the kids.

I think Admiral Roofing is sponsoring this last weekend.

No passenger trains to the south.

And passenger trains are less and less convenient. For example, the northern line no longer runs straight through from Edmonton to Prince Rupert. The train from Edmonton turns south at Jasper. If you want to continue westward in the north, you have to get off at Jasper, spend the night, and then get on a Jasper to Prince Rupert train.

And the passenger trains are expensive too. Last I looked in summer of 2012 it would have been almost $600/person to go from PG to Jasper and back.
