deJong’s Visit Cancelled
Thursday, October 17, 2013 @ 2:23 PM
The Minister was to hold a lunch time meeting today with members of the Local Government Association as part of his budget 2014 consultation.
That meeting has been cancelled as deJong’s flight never got off the ground. It was delayed repeatedly today because of the heavy fog at the Prince George Airport.

deJong is supposed to be holding a similar consultation session tomorrow in Terrace. At this point, there has been no information to suggest that meeting would be changed.

Were there any other flights in or out of PG that were cancelled today dew to fog? I hope it wasn’t just his flight, otherwise that means that Prince George flyers are just not that important….crash & burn
I thought the new runway and improved ILS made landing in the fog doable?
does anyone know if the first flight out at 7a.m. got out this morning?
I know someone who was supposed to leave midday and could not get out.

Maybe that should be the code name of the budget, “heavy fog.”
Most airports have a minimum safe landing requirement. Regardless of technology involved the ability to land or take off the final desicion is responsibility of the captain.
I was on a flight to Hongcouver 2 yrs ago and we were forced to return to PG due to heavy fog at YVR it happens even at the big airports
Quoting from the story:”That meeting has been cancelled as deJongâs flight never got off the ground.”
Therefore it appears that it did not matter how bad the fog was here at our airport or whether or not we have ordinary length runways or the third longest runway in Canada!
His plane never took off, so how is the impression that we are perhaps less important than others (I don’t think so) of any relevance to the story?
Dearth, the use of the term “Hongcouver” is racist. In case you were wondering.
On the subject of fog, I am constantly amazed by the number of drivers who don’t turn on their headlights and their taillights in foggy, wet or snowy conditions!
Please turn both on! See and be seen, people!
Sine nomine, whats racist about it? Is it racist to call a nieghbourhood little Italy, or China town?
Jesus Tap Dancing Christ STOP. Why must SO MANY people on here with their STUPID comments, ruin such an amazing site ? ? PS Sorry to all the Christians who are reading, I just wanted to get peoples attention. Plus it is my understand that Mr Bojangles learned all his moves from J.C. Just sayin’
“it appears that it did not matter how bad the fog was here”
Actually it likely did. Since flights from Vancouver are short, they will often not leave until the projections are for the fog to possibly lift by the time they are ready to approach the runway here.
The plane did not leave due to mechanical conditions, but due to weather conditions here. Weather conditions in Vancouver were not the cause.
@findme
The term “hongcouver” is considered racist due to the term “honger” being a slur against a certain type of person from Hong Kong. At least that is how it was explained to me many years ago by a Chinese friend of mine.
well for people who’s first language is not English, I can understand your friends problem. Hongcouver is merely a contraction of Hong Kong and Vancouver meathead, no racial slur at all.
Hey cuntractor, no name calling on this site!
Oops, sorry ’bout the typo. 250 needs an edit button.
