Prince George, B.C.- An Air Quality Advisory has been issued for the City of Prince George due to high particulate matter.

A high pressure ridge sitting over the coast earlier this week has moved eastward giving stagnant conditions to the region. This ridge resulted in light winds and foggy conditions developing which caused pollutants to become trapped in the bowl area of Prince George. Higher particulate levels and odour are expected again this afternoon once this fog burns off but levels are not expected to be as high as they were on Wednesday.

The provincial air quality objective for fine particles (PM2.5) is 25 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM2.5 rolling average was 39 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown site and 21 µg/m3 at College Heights at 8 am today.

The provincial air quality objective for coarse particles (PM10) is 50 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM10 rolling average was 69 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown, 33 µg/m3 at College Heights and 44 µg/m3 at BCR at 8 am today.

Based on the quality data, the high levels are mainly due to Industry sources and some contribution due to open burning.

Even though pollution levels are expected to remain high conditions are forecast to gradually improve over the next few days. Air quality is expected to be better at higher elevations.

The City of Prince George is offering free transit starting tonight at midnight until midnight of the day the advisory ends. All transit buses will switch their digital signs to display stating “Free Fare for Clean Air” and will cover the fare boxes so passengers will not be able to deposit money.

College heights, My fault about the air quality, had lots of gas last night, sorry guys.

Could also be a result of the housecleaning currently underway on Patricia Blvd.

Could the 200 hectare burn taking place 75 kilometres South West of Prince George have anything to do with Air Quality in PG.

Just askin.

BCRacer…………I couldn’t have said it better myself….excellent!!

“College heights, My fault about the air quality, had lots of gas last night, sorry guys.”

If you’re passing particulate matter with that gas, you might want to consider Depends.

The air that comes to us across the Pacific (from the Asian industrial giants) is reportedly already full of fine particulates by the time we are breathing it!

We spent some weeks in Kelowna during 2010 and 2011 and every morning our vehicle had a fine dust coatig on it, being parked outside overnight! Even on the dash!

The problem is not restricted to P.G., the fine particulates are everywhere.

yeah, its everywhere, its everywhere, its everywhere, as far as you can see, dust, dust, dust.

“The problem is not restricted to P.G., the fine particulates are everywhere”

No, in many ways I’m pretty sure that the problem is indeed restricted to PG.

I opened my dryer door this morning and it stunk like Prince George. Awesome.

Actually it is not. Evidence speaks for itself.

Satellite pictures, for instance show clouds of pollution drifting in the direction of prevailing winds which are from the West, having to do with the rotation of the Earth. Most of our weather systems come from there, as you well know. Of course if we make the problem even bigger by ADDING our own pollutants… that’s another story and our own fault.

Does not explain why all the other cities in BC currently have much better air quality than Prince George. Scroll down and see the table here:

The one comment on here, that I have difficulty believing is middle finger’s, that he would actually do his own laundry is unbelievable ;-)

Aw shucks People#1. Are you hitting on me ?

Could be that people#1 is looking to take Hartguy’s advice from the other day.

Rumdogg and I go back a few blogging years is all, we have parleyed words on numerous subjects and occasions in the past.

As for Hartguy giving me advice, or me taking that advice?
