Friday Free For All – Nov. 1, 2013
Friday, November 1, 2013 @ 12:00 AM
Say Goodbye to October, and Hello November!
Another Halloween is behind us, and we managed to come through the entire month with no snow!
So, what are the issues that struck a nerve with you this week? This is your chance to speak up. It is time for the Friday Free For All!
You pick the topic, but, obey our three simple rules:
Keep it clean
Keep it legal
No Bullying
Comments
Halloween is over…Christmas is now on the way….Happy shopping folks…Oh and happy friday all, have a great weekend.
It’s been an interesting week in Federal politics, this photograph, which is going viral, pretty well sums it up.
http://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/canada-politics/picture-thomas-mulcair-laughing-stephen-harper-during-qp-144208594.html
I am as happy as Thomas Mulcair is now that the weekend is almost here. Have a good one everyone.
This one is for people #1, all his rich climate expertshttp://wattsupwiththat.com/2013/10/31/james-cameron-decides-to-scare-people-about-climate-at-halloween/
My pet peeve of the week.
Why is it that for most of these news stories on O250 the comment threads are getting unbelieveably long winded? I don`t have that kind of time to read everything anymore. Especially with all that cut copy paste.
As for some of members, could you please keep your opinions short and simple.
That`s all. Have a nice day!
Yours was too long tractor could ya shorten it up?
Christmas is only 9 shopping weekends away. So it is well on its way willyj. Cool thing is, Costco will have their bbq’s out in 9 weeks!
K
I figured out a solution to the climate change debate, but its too long winded to type here. Oh well, maybe next year
;)

Now you’re being silly.
metalman.
What is all the new construction on the Hart. It reminds me of west of town a few years ago.
So did the city plan this license plate recognition system to coincide with the new gouge parking rates to get some new anticipated revenue?
Lets see…..propose some hugely expensive parking system to people, get the expected protesting, back down and make it seem like you are listening and implement a lesser priced system, then jack the legal parkers price to drive them out onto the street…voila, thousands of dollars of new revenue has just been created. And they say city hall has no vision.
Looking at a couple of the Esso Station gas prices recently, it seems they only like to participate in price matching when the price goes up. The sad part is that it’s the small retailers who are paying the price.
BCRacer: “While out for a walk yesterday, I watched 35 cars go through a 3 way stop near spruceland shopping center…
only 3 stopped!”
That’s a potential $32,000 in tickets, eh BC?
Wondering if City Hall is planning to release interim figures to what profit or cost we as citizens are realizing from the increased user fees from the Core Review? I think we all know they is negative effect not a positive effect. Now we are going to see a 230 K increase in revenue from parking lot increases….. NOT!
Happy November folks..
yaaaaa NO snow yet :)
I listened to the radio program when our now mayor was interviewed by Meisner.
I was one of the people who misunderstood her when she said there would be no layoffs at city hall as cost cutting measures and that she would ask all departments to find 10% in savings from their budgets.
So you are saying that 32 didnt stop without incident eh BCR? ;)
Thank you Costco for bringing our gasoline prices down….now if you’d only put in a diesel pump.
Ben how come you are so careful to what people post on your site? We have freedom of speech and expression in Canada so I don’t see it a problem whatsoever. If you learn how to speak your mind online like I have from having RCMP show up at your door a number of times threatening to charge you. You learn how to say what you want to say, even threaten and swear at people. If you know how to say it. Why not allow comments on people if they are charged. I was charged and I won my case by challenging the court online on facebook! Now they are going to try again. I had probation try and bully me in recent years by way of making home visits every three months, and it wasn’t on no order. This time I told them I would film them and plaster it all over the internet for everyone to see whom they are. Now I want some answers to these questions!

I find this to be just too funny. How long can the Esso stations stay in business with this model?
I passed two Esso stations on my way to town yesterday. (Or maybe it was the day before – at my age I tend to misremember things). The Esso at Hwy 97 and Austin was 10 cents a liter more than the PetroCan across the street. (124.9 vs. 114.9) The Esso at Handlen Rd and Hwy 97 was 7 cents a liter more then the closest station; the Husky at Chief Lk and Hwy 97. (123.9 vs 116.9)
Very odd way to compete.
I’m not complaining as I have driven in Vancouver traffic but at around 5pm the traffic on Ferry Ave to the hyw is often backed up to the Simon Fraser bridge. They have now installed a red light at Ferry and Lansdowne. Was it really worth slowing down traffic even more for the amount of traffic that come off Lansdowne Just wondering.
Swiss Chalet coming to town?
Also… Montana’s restaurant, Swiss Chalet Chicken and a rumoured Best Buy (Futureshop’s parent company) for College Heights behind Save On.. Really?
what a great halloween, beautiful weather, my kids had a great time, and lots of trick or treaters. see if you can believe this…we go to a house (lakewood area) and my kids go to the door, ‘trick or treat!’, a lady puts a piece of paper into each of their bags. a look into the bags reveals two ‘Scentsy’ pamphlets, trying to sell stupid, overpriced aromatherapy products. what a fool.

I want some answer NOW!
torm: “Ben how come you are so careful to what people post on your site? We have freedom of speech and expression in Canada so I don’t see it a problem whatsoever.”
As Ben has said many times, you do not get to say whatever you want whenever you want without potential reprucussions. Ben is responsible for what is posted on this site. If you want freedom to say whatever you want, start your own blog site.
It seems that the City of Prince George, Administration, and some Councilors, etc; have no respect for the Citizens of Prince George, and see them as nothing more than a cash cow.
On the one hand they tax us to the tune of $15 Million over 5 years for the Winter Games, then ask us to volunteer for these games to make them a success. In other words work for nothing. The people who make money on these games are hotels, restaurants, and bars. So let them provide the volunteers.
We really need to re evaluate our tax structure, and where the money is being spent, with a view of bringing the City Administration into line.
As it now stands, they are basically out of control when it comes to spending.
My wife is a website creator, designer! We could and may very well start our own website! Now Who are you Johnny Belt? You speak for Ben eh! You his lawyer?
You know who this is Johnny Belt and you wouldn’t have what it takes to take me on! Lol I would wipe the floor with you at any level!
I want some answers now! Right Now from the man! Not his idiot posters!
You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
Proverb meaning: It is easier to get what you want by flattering people and being polite to them than by making demands.
The first thing they did for the winter games was hire an outsider, then he needed a staff and office space. It seems that in the first year all the money went to administration. Okay I know they need administration for the games but years ago we had the para games and all the administration were volunteers so they had no problem asking and getting volunteers.
Nice fireworks at College Heights last night.
And goofy poster of the day goes to………
I don’t think Ben needs to jump up and answer your questions. You are a guest on his site. If you don’t like the way it’s run, lurk but don’t post.
Do I agree with when comments are turned on and off? Not really but it’s their site. I respect Ben and the staff’s ability and right to limit comment on certain things. I would stop going on here if it turned into a name calling crap fest between posters that don’t agree.
On a personal note, how much traffic can you shove through that narrow O’Grady corridor before it can’t take anymore? It’s ridiculous trying to get out of Save-on and now they want to run more traffic through it.
slinky wrote: “I was one of the people who misunderstood her (the Mayor) when she said there would be no layoffs at city hall as cost cutting measures and that she would ask all departments to find 10% in savings from their budgets.”
The layoffs were not cost cutting. It is called “rationalizing the workforce” .. :-)
Oh, and finding those 10% savings … they did find them … but it would not be like PG City Hall to actually implement them.
So they didn’t. :-)
Well I don’t. Members of this site threatened my brother and my sister inlaw’s jobs a few years ago. Now I am going to hunt them down and ruin these people, you got that!
“Defamation of Charactor”
That is why you cannot truly speak your mind on this website when there is an ongoing legal battle.
Loof it up.
Look it up.
threats dont go over so well either…
Tormented: “My wife is a website creator, designer! We could and may very well start our own website! Now Who are you Johnny Belt? You speak for Ben eh! You his lawyer?”
Of course not. I have just seen Ben state this many times to people just like you who don’t have a clue.
Tormented = another internet tough guy.
Wowww someone got up on wrong side of the bed… Or maybe this was one of the houses the RCMP went trick or treating at last night
Has anyone bought a new bed lately ?? We did at one of the big sales in Jan. Thought it would be nice to have one of these comfy beds with the pillow top. In the first month we noticed the foam was sinking where we slept ,so complained to the store and were told don’t worry you have a 10 year warranty. As the problem got worse ,6 months later they sent out the rep. and he said it’s only sunk down 3/4 of an inch and he needs 1 and a half inches before he can do anything. We now think we have the inches he wants ,so back to the store , they say it’s now between us and the rep. So phoned the rep. He told us it was impossible for the bed to have sunk so much in this time period. We have a problem and are wondering if anyone else has been through this??
“It’s ridiculous trying to get out of Save-on”
They have installed traffic lights at the new street across from the access to Box Store Heaven. That is an indicator that the street is expected to have developments on it which will generate a lot of traffic.
That should give a bit of relief for a while.
There is a swatch of C2 zoned property to the south of CH shopping centre. There is a sign at the corner of Domano and the extension of Moriarty across Domano regarding the Swiss Chalet. That property is zoned P1, so may be up fro rezoning, or else the new restaurant will be build on the C2 property to the rear (east) of the SOF store. I expect that part of the CH shopping centre to be connected to the new street which would give a much safer exit to O’Grady via a signalized intersection.
But hey, PGMap does not show that. So, there is no information, as normal. We should all go down to City Hall individually and ask for the information. That way they would need to hire more people instead of putting together a media release.
Swiss Chalet???? Bring in Red Lobster
Public Hearing for Rezoning Application No. RZ100431, Bylaw No. 8544 (Sindia Road) to amend City of Prince George Zoning Bylaw No. 7850, 2007 to allow a campground use within the AF:Agriculture and Forestry Zone has been rescheduled for Councilâs regular meeting on November 4, 2013.
I think Tormented has some anger issues. Probably wouldn’t hurt to see a professional!
Has anyone had a problem with their Bell Mobility Cell Phone?
I recently had a larger than normal bill. I called them. They didn’t help.
However I went to the store at the mall and they said they deleted the FAB10 that I had in August and didn’t tell me.
As far as I can tell that is a breach of contract and I should be able to get out of the contract without paying the cancellation fee.
Anyone else heard of this?
Thanks
OH When is that road open between Hwy 16 PGI and the Happy trails Rv park coming into the BCR. I mean it’s been 2+ years.
“Has anyone bought a new bed lately ?? He told us it was impossible for the bed to have sunk so much in this time period. We have a problem and are wondering if anyone else has been through this??”
– Yup.. too much action on the ol pleasure pad.!!
I have no anger issues and awe why don’t ask my wife that instead of me!
I hear you Bitter.
I bought a pair of hiking / runners that were about $175.00. Two months from new they were falling apart .The most hiking I do is out to the car and an occasional walk.[ just so you know I didn’t go up K2 with them ]. Well , turns out they don’t warranty that brand [ in store ]and they have to send them to Quebec to have the damage appraised .To make long story short they replaced them .[I did make a sarcastic comment of having to walk in socks for 6 weeks ]
So , moral of story is to ask questions of not only warranty but which items the store .Oops , I hope I haven’t made this too long winded .
Tormented is a “bully”…no one should respond to him other than the police…I sure hope he doesn’t have children.
“In the first month we noticed the foam was sinking where we slept ,so complained to the store and were told don’t worry you have a 10 year warranty.”
I think you should have returned it within the first month when you went to complain to get your money back.
As far as needing 1.5 inches instead of .75 inches.
He might think it is impossible …. that really does not matter.
You need to write this down and everything from here on needs to be recorded in writing and copied to the store (so they know they are dealing with an inferior product and an inferior manufacture warrantee) as well as the manufacturer, with the original sent to the rep.
He NEEDS to see this and you need to keep in touch with him at least each couple of weeks until he or the manufacturer accepts it (if the foam stays down by the 1.5 inches.)
You can also take a very hard line (which I would have done) that 1.5 inches of depression is totally unacceptable; that should have been made clear to you at the time of sale (I wonder if the store actually knows that).
Period, end of story. You can still do that now, but it would have been a stronger case if you had done it from the beginning.
Also, I would not absolve the store. They sold you the mattress and they should know the products they sell. The foam is obviously not designed for the purpose for which it is used. Now, if you paid $100 or less for it, then it should have been obvious that it would have been inferior.
Also, they may have had other situations like yours with that product, which may have been the reason it was on sale rather than returned to the manufacturer as an inferior product.
I think the Better Business Bureau is useless, but you might want to get them involved as well.
Just the way I would handle the thing.
I could make a joke about memory foam here, but that would likely not be appreciated. Good luck!!
Who am I not supposed to respond to?
If you posters are really that ignorant and arrogant then I am done here! Yeah I am finished engaging fools! Fools that can’t or won’t see the problems in this country and are not willing to help solves then. Instead come on this old mans website and talk like you are on glue!
Have to wonder why the media isn’t all over this BS
http://www.fortmcmurraytoday.com/2013/10/07/canadian-employees-replaced-with-temporary-foreign-workers
please pass the glue tormented!!
Askum .. long winded? ….. you need to try harder … LOL ….
No wonder tractor wants short posts … he needs to get a longer vehicle.
“He told us it was impossible for the bed to have sunk so much in this time period. We have a problem and are wondering if anyone else has been through this??”
I know one local store gives you a 6 month trial on new beds. If you don’t like it they will take it back. Wondering if you got one that has been trialed numerous times?
vocer….. ever try going West at the Junction by Casino when coming from BCR ??? Wowwww Especially if trucks are waiting in line.. Have to wait like three four lights before getting onto 16 West. It’s faster going on Ferry to get on 16.
“Swiss Chalet???? Bring in Red Lobster”
I’ve heard that Red Lobster won’t set up in BC because we are a seafood rich province.
And shipping lobster from the Atlantic provinces is quite expensive..
It’s been another week and Israel hasn’t attacked Iran. I’m still waiting. Oil prices will surely rise due to that and then the two pipelines (Enbridge and Keystone) here in Canada will get “RUSH” stamped on them. Nothing strange about world oil prices going up to get some folks off their butts. I keep commenting on this because and only because I am an opinionated nobody. Just like the rest of us.
Alberta has Red Lobster
Edmonton is not far from us and they have some.. Probably get their lobster from Vancouver
Stillsmokin. I know what you mean about going West past the casino and trying to make a left onto 16.
Acutally when it is really busy the traffic going West through 16 block off the West turn lane so no one can get in the Que, this further aggravates the problem.
Tormented,
You succeeded in getting the attention of 250news. You got your wish, you have been banned .
YAY……I’m guessing he’s 13 years old.
PAT BELL FOR MAYOR !!!!
“Probably get their lobster from Vancouver”
Who in turn gets it from where?
“Alberta has Red Lobster”
Yup, they don’t have a seafood rich coast.
I don’t think that it has anything to do with availability of sea food. It may have to do with who owns the franchise rights and what they plan on doing with them. I would bet that someone in the Lower Mainland bought the rights and is sitting on them in order to protect their current operations or has an agreement with Red Lobster not to compete. A similar thing happened in Winnipeg with Ikea. Took forever to get one there because of agreements between companies.
I always eat at Red Lobster in Edmonton. The food is good but the service is awesome.
Lets change the channel for a moment and address the deplorable actions of our Legion and their proprietary control of the POPPY. This symbol of DOES NOT BELONG TO ANY ONE group and least of all to the Legion. The “rights” to this were “secured” with the blood of our countrymen and countless others. The brave souls who gave their lives for us would be appalled if they knew of the deplorable actions of the COWARDS who control the commercial aspects of the word “POPPY” and the flower symbolizes true sacrifice. Those legion members who support this measure deserve to be visited in their dreams by the people who EARNED IT!
You people have horrible taste in restaurants.
It seems everyone has an opinion here but not the fortitude to weigh in on topics that have some teeth.
Geez….go offline for a couple of hours and I miss all the fun.
Red Lobster gets their seafood from Maine and the east coast. They claim to be a sustainable company but dont they all now. “Sustainable” is the “new” word in marketing. Captain Highliner claims to be sustainable as well but their ocean trollers are still out their raping the bottom of our oceans on a daily basis.
Thanks Gus for the Info. We will follow up on it. We hope it’s been a warning for other people.
As for Prince George, it will forever be a “Backwards town full of lumberjacks and mountain men who stir their coffee with their thumb.” This was the statement from the press when Chuck and Die visited in the 80’s and it remains true to this day. I am glad I had the good sense to leave.
regarding the mattress, my wife and I purchased a new mattress a few years ago. went to the store, laid down on a few different mattresses. got to the massive pillow top, and I’m in heaven. I don’t think i’d ever laid on something so comfortable. after 30 seconds we looked at each other and said, ‘this is it, best mattress ever’. 4 years later, i’ve realized that pillow tops are way too soft to provide any kind of meaningful support to my back. every morning i roll over feeling like I’ve slept in a ditch. never again with a pillow top. I also hate the idea of a ‘rep’ having to somehow measure the loss of cushion.
as for spud, your sense is not as good as you think it is. you disparage the town and people, but comment on a site dedicated to the same town’s news. also pretty sure nobody spelled it, ‘die’. durp. i guess the thumb-stirring primates left in pg are still more intelligent than you.
The average attendance for the Cougars games for the last 9 games was 1500 fans.
So the question is. Where are all the fans now that the Cougars are making a somewhat credible effort???
I doubt if the average will get much higher even if they start to win even more games. Those soft fans that went to games in the early years are long gone. No new fans coming on stream.
So, how long will the City keep subsidizing this losing proposition? Lets set the ticket price so that we can at least recoup our costs. If this means that the Cougars disappear. So be it.
Keep in mind that the Cougar franchise is a **Private Business** and should not be supported by tax dollars.
SPUD….
I take offence to you calling us all lumberjacks and mountain men. Who in the heck do you think you are. If you cut all ties to this town why are you reading news, as well as posting your views on this news site. I am glad you took your crappy attitude with you, whereever that is. Prince George gets its reputation from people like you.
Prince George’s reputation has been cemented by decades of mismanagement and poorly executed development. I bought into the BS spewed forth from the executive about revitalization only to see it buried under a debt financing structure that mortgaged many civic assets for terms in excess of 25 years. In turn roads and other vital infrastructure have suffered and continue to suffer. I would suggest the reputation is set in stone at least until 2043. I beLIEved in the myth for almost 40 years until I could no longer breathe. The DBIA stance that we can make downtown PG into some type of “Robson Street” was doomed from the start. Ask any of the bums at Spruceland where they used to live. They are no longer a fixture in the core because they can’t earn a living either. It follows that any savvy business owners left would similarly change their business plans. One only needs to read the inscription on the monument to downtown revitalization at 5th and George. You know, the one with Elmer Mercier’s name on it.
Don’t get me wrong. As many ex-pats from PU PG have said to me recently “Prince George is a great town to be FROM.” I enjoyed my time there but I could no longer stand and be counted in a place that poisoned me in my sleep.

“You people have horrible taste in restaurants”
LOL! Here is my assessment:
Swiss Chalet: Ho Hum.
Montana’s: 0.75(Ho Hum) + 35% additional cash
Red Lobster: 0.75(Ho Hum) + 35% additional cash + crustaceans
tormented gets booted and two hours later “spud” logs in and starts bashing PG… hmmmm
As for Best Buy, they have more selection than Future Shop, but I don’t they they have anything that can’t already be found in PG. If you can find it at Future Shop, buy it there as they are often quite a bit less expensive FOR THE EXACT SAME PRODUCT.
“The average attendance for the Cougars games for the last 9 games was 1500 fans. So the question is. Where are all the fans now that the Cougars are making a somewhat credible effort???”
Have you checked the standings? They are in their “somewhat normal historic” position, LOL.
I work all over B.C. and Alberta and am rarely in my hometown of P.G. I have to say that Prince George is light years ahead of all the smaller cities that I spend all my time working in. It has the biggest selection of restaurants for sure and by far offers the best recreation outlets from in town (swimming and sports facilities) to outdoor (skiing and boating etc) I have noticed a big change in the response from people when you say you are from Prince George, instead of negative crap, most say “oh I went there for this r that” and enjoyed it ! So who cares about potholes, (Driven around Grande Prairie or Fort St John lately)! People have to get out more, Prince George is a nice city!
Spud, AKA “Tormented”
Lumberjacks and moutain men need Red Lobster.I totally agree… the one in Edmonton is FANTASTIC and the service is awesome. They cater to you, not the other way round like some restaurants here who think we are doing them a favor by coming in.. They need to learn from Red Lobster..
How about that mayor of Canada’s largest city eh? I’m guessing that certain members of the Federal Conservatives are just loving the fact that they showed support for such an upstanding citizen in the recent past.
Between him and the senators they appointed, one could almost start to believe that their judgement of character may be a little flawed, LOL.
Prince George is great if your into outdoor recreation and need the benifits of a major city with very affordable living compared to other places in the province.
Fair enough statement to say the city hall is a disaster and the down town is slum however people who live here can tollerate that with the positives.

I’d take a dozen Rob Ford’s over one Gregor Robertson any day. I’d rather have someone in the big chair who shows a little fiscal responsibility then have someone who bends over to every whacked out special interest group that comes along.
just so you know, Future shop is the Canadian Brand for
Best Buy.
Best Buy has been opening stores in the major centers of Canada for years now, but that is only to service the higher end retail.
I suggest that you look up on Wikipedia the retail organization of interest, and you may be surprised how many different brands are actually all owned by the same umbrella company. Quite often the ultimate owner is an investment firm on behalf of a mutual fund provider.
An example is the the Bay, which is a sister of Zeller’s, etc.
“I’d take a dozen Rob Ford’s over one Gregor Robertson any day. I’d rather have someone in the big chair who shows a little fiscal responsibility then have someone who bends over to every whacked out special interest group that comes along”
Whacked out special interest groups? You mean like crack dealers, people who commit extortion or known street gang affiliates? Or do you mean people who advocate for the homeless, those who want a pride parade or people who want to breathe clean air?
The mafia is very fiscally responsible, perhaps we should have them manage our municipal governments? After all, it’s worked out so well for Montreal, LOL . . .
@ stillsmokin… no kidding.. I don’t go that way anymore as it seems you get 2 cars through the left turn signal max .. Cant win for losing but again I’ve driven in Vancouver at rush hour so again I’m not complaining. Just an observation.
Red Lobster is way overrated. There are none in BC and I wouldn’t hold my breath for the first one to be in PG.
Palopu: “The average attendance for the Cougars games for the last 9 games was 1500 fans. So the question is. Where are all the fans now that the Cougars are making a somewhat credible effort???”
NMG: “Have you checked the standings? They are in their “somewhat normal historic” position, LOL.”
Palopu has had a serious hate-on for the Cougars as long as I can remember. Nothing new there. You’re right NMG, they are in their usual spot in the standings and only about 20 games into the season.
I would just like to thank the editor for keeping this website clean.
It is incredible how fast things can get out of hand.
As for Gus. My truck is long and reading huge posts is like eating a sandwich at a smorgasbord. It usually gets left uneaten.
I read in an Oregon newspaper (via the internet) that panhandlers, bums, hoboes and/or beggars outside a WalMart store there make more money than the employees do. Go figure, eh?
SURPRISE! You now need a business license in PG if you have rental properties. That’s a 155.00 per rental property folks! Looks like the rent will be going up!
I agree Johnnybelt, Red Lobster is overrated. But if some people like it, that is good for them. Myself, I like small local unfranchised places, like the new Zaffron Cuisine on Vancouver St.or the Dana Mandi on 5th or the Mai Thai on 5th as well. Daddy O’s has great food too. Prince George is really a great place to live!
What if you have 1,2 or 3 rentals on one propery? Do you have to pay more??
Look at Rob Ford’s achievements in office not left wing media reports.
@NoWay
Yep, and you can only legally raise the rent by a small percentage dictated by the RTO. Every landlord that has a legal suite will be hit with this new business license fee. According to the City, when the tax notices come out any residence that does not claim the HOG will be subject to the $155 fee. The City further says that it will rely on reports of suites by neighbours and checking ads for rentals to uncover illegal suites. I think that before this new business license is invoked, the City should spend the money to have every residence inspected for extra suites. They would more than make their money back on the license fees as well as higher utility fees for multi unit housing that is currently unclaimed. If they implement it as they are planning to only honest landlords will be paying the new fee. I think there should be one business license fee of $155 regardless of how many houses or units are rented out because it is one rental business with x amount of inventory. At the very least, let’s start with a level playing field and identify all units subject to this new (tax) fee.
So Banner, the city is doing something that will penalize the honest people for doing what’s right while letting the crooked ones slip through? Gee we’ve never seen that before have we…
” business license in PG if you have rental properties ”
What about 2 homes with 1 civic address?
“The City further says that it will rely on reports of suites by neighbours and checking ads for rentals to uncover illegal suites.”
Who’s checking the ads…Would that be myself or the city?
Ba, ha, ha, It’s a very busy “free-for-all Friday” on this site, but following the exchange between axman and NMG on the Toronto Mayor; Rob Ford fiasco, I have to give that exchange to NMG hands down! That was a fun and funny read.
Hey NMG, do you think Stephen Harper will be inviting fellow Conservative Rob Ford over for any more dinners at 24 Sussex Drive? LOL.

—————–
I didn’t realize we had an exchange. Silly me.
The cost is per “dwelling unit”. So if you have a suite you rent out in your home, that’s $155. If you rent out an upstairs suite and a basement suite, that’s $155 x 2. Rent out a duplex it’s also per unit, put a couple suites into that duplex and you’re looking at $640.
LOL @ interceptor. Who’d a thunk it?
Oops, bad math $620.00
There are a number of illegal suites that will never be found, and therefore they will never pay the license fee.
Those people who have legal suites and obey the law will pay the license fee, and those who ignore the law will not pay.
Seems like following the rules is a mugs game.
This is another **bogus** piece of legislation brought in by this Council that makes little or no sense, other than to grab more revenue.
Grabbing revenue seems to be the order of the day. How can we stop these dweebs.

The reason they have no fans is because the Cougar management has done everything possible to destroy and chance of them going anywhere for the last 10 seasons. They trade off their best players for duds, seems intentional almost like they were trying to have the team moved.
Lol editor banning people is an impossible task. But at least they will have to change names.
If you live in the upstairs or downstairs of your residence and apply for the home owners grant you will not have get a business license for your illegal suite!
Your are right banner but raise it they will!
Future shop isn’t Canadian, London Drugs is though!
JohnnyBelt. I don’t have a hate on for the Cougars per se. I would feel the same regardless of what WHL franchise was in the building if the circumstances were the same.
I am against putting these types of programs into effect, and then not doing anything about it when they start to cost us big money.
As I said many, many, times, this is a Private Business and we as taxpayers should not be taking a loss while the owners are making money.
How hard is that to understand???
But it’s all about “business”! Didn’t you know that Palopu? If business doesn’t benefit at all costs it just wouldn’t be right, would it?
Just curious, if I buy a product at a business and they promise delivery in x number of days and then fail to deliver, and I repeatedly remind them that they need to do so and they still haven’t done so in triple the number of promised days, what are my options? They have refused to give my money back and couldn’t provide a suitable alternative and I’m stil waiting. Any thoughts?

Your comment on the Cougars is right on! Good for you.
City Charging $155/year for Business licence for a rental property!!!
I just got a note in the mail stating I will have to purchase a business licence for my rental house. Council made these changes on October 7th, 2013 and immediately its law. I get a letter 3 weeks later.
I don’t like it especially after a 25% increase in my taxes/utilities over the last year.
Maybe its time to sell my property and invest in another place instead of Prince George !
This council and mayor are a bunch of Bananas !
It’s easy Joey just jack up the rent!
Rental regulations don’t allow owners to just “jack up the rent”.
@ sarahsmith70;
Try contacting the Better Business Bureau?
Regulations allow owners to jack up the rent within reason. Owners can also raise the rent when the place is up for rent again. So this extra expense will be passed on to the tenants, guaranteed.

It’s funny how you don’t feel the same way about Pine Valley. Different priorities, I guess.
