Province Launches Mentorship Data Base

Prince George, B.C. – Backed by statistics that indicate a new business is more likely to survive the 5 year mark if the owner had a mentor, the Provincial Government  has launched an online  mentorship resource tool.

The online   site is meant to link entrepreneurs with mentor programs and experts who can help the newcomers avoid some of the mistakes that could be costly.

MentorshipBC, is a central database of business-mentoring programs and allows entrepreneurs to find and access programs that meet their specific needs.

First, check the “Location” drop down menu. If you are looking for something in the Prince George region, you may find it under the “Cariboo-Chilcotin” area, that’s where site designers plugged the Prince George and Central Interior information. Then, viewing the other two “filters” of gender and newcomer to Canada make whatever selections you feel are necessary, and hit the orange button on the right.   You should now see a list of programs that are available.

In addition to providing small businesses with a search tool to find an appropriate mentor program, the site promotes the benefits of working with mentors and using other small business resources.

Kaleena Ross  of Prince George speaks positively about the importance of having a mentor. She worked with Shauna Harper of LiveWorkPG and learned enough to start her own event and social media company. Meantime, Shauna Harper benefited from learning the lessons a fresh thinker like Kaleena brought to the table.

Maybe Mayor Green should see if anyone can mentor her on how to manage a circus. I think those would be great skills to take back to the council table ;)
