Iwama Heading to Japan

Prince George, B.C.- When UNBC President Dr. George Iwama leaves UNBC at the end of this year, he will be making a move to Japan.
He has been appointed Executive Vice-President for the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University in Japan. This is a very young university which has students pursuing doctoral degrees in Science.
It will be a sort of homecoming for Dr. Iwama, as he was born on Okinawa, and lived there until he was 17 years old.
UNBC has announced that until a replacement for Dr. Iwama can be found, Dr. Mark Dale, will serve as Interim President of UNBC effective January 1, 2014. He has been the Vice President Academic and Provost of UNBC since 2008.

And here I thought that he would stay in beautiful Prince George BC.
What’s Okinawa got that we haven’t?? He had a great job here as President, and now will be Vice President. Hmmmmmm.
Speaks volumes for networking, eh? Lee Iacocca did that. See where it got him? Read his book. Good for Mr. I.
Palopu: “What’s Okinawa got that we haven’t?? “
Other than the fact it’s his birthplace you mean?
I’m quite sure Okinawa doesn’t have a problem with their “downtown revitalization”, for one thing. Betcha.
I wonder if Okinawa has a sister city ?
I just googled Okinawa. It is an Island 640 km south of Japan. Looks like Hawaii It has the highest life expectancy in the world. Sounds like a good move.
Okinawa is an island, not a city. The university is located in the village of Onna.
I would stay as far away from Japan until they get that reactor thing figured out. Maybe they can send some of these new scientists to plug the leaks and shut it down.
Anyways, he’s a great guy and did lots for UNBC and PG in general. A very rational thinking man.
Fukushima is about 1,800 km north of Okinawa. That is further than the north south distance from the US border in BC to the Yukon border.
I would not worry too much of the Fukushima radiation problem in Okinawa. I think there is more concern to the west toward the Americas.
From the northern tip to the southern tip, of Japan is about 3,000km.
A huge loss for PG. I certainly wish Dr. Iwama and his wife all the best. They will be missed by many.
