McBride, B.C.- The restaurant next to the North Country Lodge in McBride, is no more.

Flames ripped through the restaurant last night.

“Early indications would suggest the fire started in the kitchen” says McBride Volunteer Fire and Rescue Chief, Dave Hruby. “We got the call around 11:30 last night, and we worked on it until about 6:00 this morning.”

Chief Hruby says  the investigation into the fire is underway, so the  exact cause of the fire is not yet known.    There were no injuries.

“It  will be a blow to the community for sure” says Chief Hruby. The restaurant was a popular and convenient stop for travellers and locals alike.

Pity, stopped there a few times in the past, good food, great service. Hope they are covered to be able to rebuild.

lightening…

I ate there. Bummer. Not eating there, but because of the fire. Lest you be confused.

Did someone order their steak extremely well done?

This community has been hit hard by gas station closures, and even their only grocery store, hope they can rebuild.

Stopped there a number of times over the years. Always enjoyed it.

Small towns are being killed off by the big superstores in areas like, Prince George, Nanimo, Kamloops, etc; People go to these areas and buy for a week or two, and their local stores suffer.

Don’t know what the solution is, but that’s the reality.

Man, tough couple of days in McBride; first they lose a woman from the community to a car accident and then the restaurant burns down :P

People#1, isn’t this Harper’s fault somehow?

They had 2 Grocery stores now they only have one, and only 1 gas station. This restraint that burned down was extremely busy with sledders in the winter, big lose for McBride.

dow, I could apply the six degrees of Kevin Bacon to this situation and probably come up with a Harper connection some how.

Hmm… I managed to get this close:

“When federal funding for Canada’s five heavy urban search and rescue teams dries up in March, there will be no specialized agencies to respond to disasters such as structural collapses. Photo by The Canadian Press
This is a legitimate question when we consider that the federal majority funding for these teams will be withdrawn in 2013. What would the response have looked like? Can you imagine the outcry and national embarrassment?”

This more about building collapse and search and rescue, not municipal fire fighting… but what the hay, just one more example of the Harper Government drying up fund for emergency essential services, that will now have to be funded by the provinces and territories. Same old same old… ;-)

I recall grabbing a burger and fries at that restaurant once a number of years ago. I agree, good food and good service.

When we drove from PG to Ottawa, we ate at many mom and pop type restaurants like these. It’s funny, the more options there are for the big franchise restaurants, the less I want to eat at them.
