Freezing Rain In Prince George Area Covers Roads In Ice

Prince George- RCMP are advising the driving public to be cautious when driving this morning, as area roads are extremely icy.
The police are concerned that drivers may miss the overnight freezing rain that has coated the highways in the region with a thin coat of ice.
The temperature was sitting at minus two earlier this morning but is expected to climb to plus five with rain showers in between, later today, the ingredients, as Constable B Moerike of the RCMP says, to make the roads and highways very slippery.

Yup, all you drivers that think ‘all season’ tires are good enough. Please stay home! Driving with winter studded tires makes ‘all the difference’.
If you drive like an idiot, your tires won’t make any difference.
Like the Belterra service truck that blew by me in Macleod Lake last Friday heading north. Had to have been doing 120 through the 70 zone. He disappeared until I drove past him on the other side of the Pine Pass. I wonder how long he had to wait for the wrecker to pull him out of the ditch?
What’s worse is it’s intermittent. I tested traction by my house, bare wet, couple of clicks later, black ice. So I drove for the worst, and I’m happy to say so did everyone else on Chief Lake Rd, except for one unfortunate vehicle in the ditch. So can’t assume it’s good everywhere. Got out my car at the parkade in town and it was just a sheet of ice.
I have to agree with you on that one Dragonmaster. Good thing is he didn’t hit someone else
Its not the black ice that’s so dangerous, but rather the slush that can suck one in and rob the ability to steer.
I think black ice is ten times worse than slush. Slush you can see, you can react to and for the most part, you can slow down to counteract it. Black ice or freezing rain, not so much.
