One Body Pulled from Skeena

Terrace, B.C. – Terrace Search and Rescue has confirmed that the body of one of three missing boaters has been pulled from the Skeena River.
Search Manager Dave Jephson says an RCMP aircraft spotted the body and was able to direct searchers to the area Tuesday, but he says there’s no sign of the other two missing people or their boat.
The three left for a popular hot spring located on the south side of the Skeena east of Prince Rupert November 10th but failed to return as planned the following day. Frizzell Hot Springs is only accessible by boat and the water levels at that point in the river vary widely with the tide, sometimes up to 15 feet.
Jephson says the search is both complicated and dangerous. One boat struck a rock in the river leaving one person with injuries. The tide change also left two Terrace SAR boats and their crews stranded on sandbars after dark.
Jephson says it’s not known whether the trio ran into trouble on the way out to the hot spring or as they tried to return.
The search is expected to resume early Wednesday morning with Terrace SAR, RCMP, and Canadian Coast Guard participating.
