Local Special Olympics Coach Named Male Coach of the Year
Prince George, B.C. – Local Special Olympics coach, Calvin Dyck has received his award as the Canadian Special Olympics Male Coach of the Year.
This award is given annually to the top male coach of Canada, involved in coaching Special Olympics. While Calvin was named the recipient of the award last month, it wasn't actually delivered to him until this past weekend at the annual Special Olympics Gala in Toronto.
Calvin has been coaching Cross Country Skiing to local Special Olympics athletes for the past 10 years. He is a dedicated coach putting his athletes first. His positive attitude, well planned practices, has gained him the respect of fellow coaches, volunteers, parents/caregivers and most importantly the athletes.
Some of Calvin Dycks' accomplishments with Special Olympics :
~In the 10 years Calvin has been involved with Special Olympics he has taken the cross country skiers to regional, provincial and national games in Quebec City (2008), and St Albert, Alberta (2012)
~ In 2011 Calvin was the Head Coach for Nordic Skiing at the 2011 SOBC Provincial Winter Championships. He was responsible for preparing the athletes for the competition as well as the other coaches.
~Over the years, Calvin has participated in the Prince George Iceman and has recently involved some of the Special Olympic athletes in the Iceman, which has been successful.
~Calvin recently was a recipient of the Community Sport Hero Awards that were handed out in Prince George earlier this year.
