Prince George, BC – Last year's first open house for the newly opened Prince George Islamic Centre was such a success, another one is planned for later today…
"This year, it's especially for our neighbours," says the centre's secretary, Hassan Tahir. "As well as the community at large, and we would like them to come in – we'll be having a short talk that is an introduction to Islam, then a guided tour of the building, followed by refreshments."
Tahir says it's a chance for people to see the centre, get some information, and ask any questions. He says turn-out was really good last year. "We found people really enjoyed coming in. There were so many who came from the university – students – as well as neighbours, so it was a good experience."
There are currently more than 250 people in the local Muslim community who worship at the local Islamic Centre. Tahir says nine board members take care of the centre's day-to-day activities.
Today's open house runs between 3pm and 5pm.
