Names of Highway 16 Crash Victims Released

Prince George, B.C.- The two people who died in last week's tagic crash on Highway 16 have been identified.
The BC Coroners Service says the two were 46 year old Akiko Hofer and her 17 year old son, Pierce Hofer, both of Burns Lake.
Ms. Hofer was the driver and Pierce the passenger in an east bound SUV on highway 16 last Friday, when their vehicle collided with a wesbound flatbed Ford truck east of the Isle Pierre Road turn off.
Road conditions were noted to be icy at the time. Both persons were deceased at the scene of the crash.
The BC Coroners Service and the RCMP continue to investigate.

They were friends of some of our family. Pierce was going to graduate this year and was planning on attending UNBC. This was a trip to come spend a day at the university for young people to get to know the place.
Very sad for all and another graphic reminder of how uncertain life is.
Some people drive from as far away as Fraser Lake every day for classes at CNC and UNBC. Huge risk in the winter considering road conditions at times. It sure would be nice to have some divided highways up in the north.
