This Year’s Christmas ‘Must Haves’

Standing in Andre's home theatre room, Prince George Manager Ed Jang talks 'hot items' of the season

Prince George, BC – Move over smartphones, 'tis the season of the smart tv…

"Every Christmas, there always seems to be something that's particularly hot," says Andre's Electronic Experts Manager, Ed Jang.  "This year would be smart tvs – they allow consumers to go on Facebook, Internet Explorer, Netflix.  All the apps are built internally into the tv set."

"3D televisions were an item, but they've fallen onto the backburner, now it's smart tvs."

Other gifts for the techies on your list that Jang is having a tough time keeping stocked on the shelves are GoPro cameras.  The indoor/outdoor, waterproof cameras appeal to those who love capturing their adventures as they go.  Andre's is sold out at the moment, but hopes to have another shipment coming in.

Another product heading out the door at a good clip, is Sonos – a home stereo system without the the wiring.  "It's the newest technology out there," says Jang.  "It really appeals to techies in all age groups.  It's wireless, web-based music that you can broadast throughout your home – there's no internal wiring needed for the speakers, it uses WiFi."

Jang says what's nice about the product is that you can start with a basic system for just over $200 ($218 plus tax) and add speakers throughout your home as you desire.

This is not personal with the company or the manager in the picture for this story.

But I think of how much of the world tonight will go to bed without having eaten a meal all day?

But that’s OK as long as we can keep buying the latest electronic gizmo on a credit card. Since when should something be the thing to get just because it’s ‘hot’? That is the mentality that has gotten us into the serious financial mess we find ourselves in.

Sorry, but ‘smart’ and ‘TV’ shouldn’t be allowed in the same sentence.

Who’s in a financial mess? You? That’s your fault. I’m gonna get me a new TV but I think I’ll pay cash.
Who cares about people that haven’t eaten today? That’s not what this article is about…

Sad :'(

not-so-random
A “Smart TV” is a “Must-Have” for you, but you don’t care about people that haven’t eaten today?
Words fail to describe such an attitude.

(And no, I’m not in a financial mess, but our society as a whole is drowning in debt trying to keep up with the “must-haves” of cheap imports.

jetstream watching TV can take your mind off of eating. If you don’t a TV just think of those other folks who will also go to bed tonight without having one to watch. Sorry about your financial problems.

furtree, you just don’t get it, do you?
My financial situation is quite alright, no need to feel sorry for me.
My point was simply to show the difference between a materialistic society like ours in contrast with much of the world.
Here, a TV is a “must-have”. Many other places, a simple meal is a “must-have”.
Sorry to break it to you, but a TV is not a necessity like food is.

I agree with jetstream. Must haves indeed. The corporations must produce ever greater profits, quarter over quarter, and the consumer must be continually convinced that the next great thing is not only desirable, but needed.
Tune in, turn on, and drop out comes to mind.
metalman.

TV. Chewing gum for the mind.

Sorry guys this is the new age of get what you want no matter of the cost people kind of need that now a days because everyone works very hard and you need to spoil your self once in a while besides it not like the people higher up really cares about you considering of all the useless things that out money goes to instead of helping families out in desperate need but that is society and this is the way it is.

Jetstream I’m curious just what type of communication device did you use to convey your comments with on this site. And no I do get it, you entirely missed the gist of my comment.

Well, it wasn’t with a “must-have” TV. ;-)
