More Guns Seized

Prince George, B.C. – Another seizure of  firearms in Prince George following the execution of a search warrant.

A specialized unit within the Prince George RCMP  executed the search warrant  on a residence  in the 1800 block  of 9th Avenue in Prince George.  Police say athe residence is  known to them,  and they believe a number of criminal activities had been occurring there.

A search of the home resulted in the seizure of several firearms, which included an SKS assault rifle, a sawed off prohibited .22 caliber rifle, a pistol grip shotgun, a .308 rifle, a large amount of ammunition and what appeared to be a crude homemade silencer or suppresser.  Police also located a quantity of heroin inside the home.

Police subsequently arrested three adult males without incident.

Police say there were very concerned about the location of this  residence, as it is near Duchess Park Secondary School.  They saya they are  concerned  given the presence of the firearms and the suspected criminal activity the occupants were engaging in.  Police believe the seized firearms were destined for the streets of Prince George and were not intended to be used for legal purposes, such as hunting or sport shooting.

This was the third search warrant since late October in which the Detachment's Crime Reduction Team encountered firearms inside of a home they were searching.  In all three instances, police discovered modified prohibited firearms, which could easily be concealed.  On two of the occasions, the firearms were found to be loaded and readily accessible.

One of the males, a 50 year old Prince George resident, is now facing a number of firearm and drug related charges as a result of this investigation.  He was released from custody by way of a Promise to Appear for court on Wednesday January 29th, 2013.  The remaining males were released with no charges pending at this time.

The investigation is continuing.

Wow! Nice work! I am amazed at how many guns seizures there have been in the last while, even more amazed at the types of weapons seized. Does every drug dealer have an illegal gun of some sort? I am also happy that these are not being used on our streets openly or often and won’t be for sure now.

I love how they release them with a “promise to appear”. I guess bad guys are that trustworthy? It’s what illegal activity they’ll be doing in the meantime. But hey, if they promise!

Police say there were very concerned about the location of this residence, as it is near Duchess Park Secondary School.

Propaganda at its finest. Would there be less of a concern if it was next to your house?

if the bad guys give up that easy I wonder why they bother with weapons….

I sure don’t want to see police or anyone else hurt……but really you have weapons,,,,, WHY?

bcracer says “but really you have weapons,,,,, WHY?”
———————————————
because the charges and penalties for possession of illegal firearms are a minor inconvenience (to a drug dealer)whereas shooting an officer would result in either getting shot back and/or a serious inconvenience (real jail time) … no one says these guys are geniuses but they aren’t all stupid either

Where is the disclaimer – no comments because the matter is before the courts – like the seizure from a month ago. Maybe a 250 favor pulled on that one perhaps. ???

And to think this is probably just a mere fraction of what is out there (illegal).

No one was named, that’s why comments are still allowed.

An sks is not an “assault” weapon. Its a ww2 vintage rifle.

findme, are you serious? A gun made for its only purpose is to kill another human being, and it’s not an “assault” rifle. People like you are the reason why I rarely comment on this site any more.

Pineview farmer its people like you who’ve turned this country into a nanny state. You make me sad for this country. All guns have many uses, be it hunting game, or target shooting. This rifle is no different than any semi-automatic hunting rifle. Stupid comments like this from the media and yourself are why liberal governments try to ban things all the time. Try not being part of the problem.

I agree with findme

+2 on findme

correct me if I’m wrong but if any firearm in Canada has been sawed off, barrel altered (like the .22 ,looks to be a Marlin .22 Semi auto rifle) Isn’t it a mandatory 5-10 in the Pen…no if ands or buts??

+3 on findme

The only illegal firearm shown is the .22 and to me it looks like a chopped Ruger 10/22. The rest of them are perfectly legal to own although the two mags if not pinned to 5 rounds wouldn’t be.

My question is why is the RCMP displaying the firearms in an unsafe manner. If one were to follow the letter of the law then the RCMP should be charged as well.

I agree with findme also. Just because an SKS is semi automatic and has 30 shot clips does not mean it is an assult weapon. haha

Well, that 30 round magazine and the telescoping butt make it illegal. Those are illegal modifications. A stock SKS with a magazine pinned to 5 rounds is perfectly legal. Also, unless it’s modified to bump fire in full automatic it’s not really an assault rifle.

Are there seriously people defending the gun choices of drug traffikers?

Yeah, I’m sure the guy is just a target shooting collector.

Nobody is defending the gun choices of criminals. A gun is a tool. It’s either legal or illegal depending on Canadian law. The use of the term “Assault Rifle” in this case, is purely meant to inflame opinion.

Who’s afraid of well adjusted (unproven) people who have guns? Feminists? Ordinary citizens? The cops? The government? (all levels). Criminals?

So, did this all happen during a record 26cm snowfall? Or is this old news?

Unless you can see better than I can those mags are pinned to 5 rounds, also the telescope makes no difference. The length of the barrel is where the law stands and that looks legit to me.

The fact that everyone on here knows that much about guns and alterations worries me abit:)

stanwich worried a bit? These commentators probably know a lot about a lot of things…
He’d blow his mind if he saw the collections some legitimate local gun owners have in their basement…

No one needs an automatic weapon but the police and military. Throw the book at them as an example.

I agree with findme. Sardonic, there was no mention of an automatic…not defending these guys but when people see the word guns they freak and over exagerate

Who called the SKS AN ASSAULT weapon, the police? Same people who kicked down doors in illigally in Highriver.

Who cares if a SKS is originally built as an assault weapon but for the North American market it is altered to not be fully automatic so it doesn’t technically deserve the name (unless altered back). Oh for shame they called it an assault rifle without checking google first, we also do not know if it was modified like the other weapons.

The largest concern is most of the weapons on two of three searches were fully loaded and ready to go. And how were these weapons acquired, and how exactly have they been modified – two things we are not being told all the story. There are descriptions of 4 of the 5 weapons seized, is the sawed off 22 the one that looks like they were trying to clone an uzzi?

The fact is the Chretien liberals and the RCMP, have done an excellent job of demonizing firearms. Anything that has a black stock and looks scary is called an assault weapon. The media certainly hasn’t helped by continually repeating this. I recently took my firearms course and was pleased to see it quite full, and there were many women in the class. It’s good to know that many people in Canada choose to educate themselves rather than simply spitting out the liberal mantra of “guns bad”. Lord knows, if the RCMP has there way, and the liberals win the next election we might be left with nothing but airlift rifles.

People that don’t know anything about firearms and laws should really refrain from posting about them. Too many people spreading misinformation doesn’t help anything. All it does is create more people that don’t know what they’re talking about. There are a few posters here that do know about them and the laws surrounding them.

There are only two firearm related items in this story that are illegal/prohibited. One is the silencer the other is the modified .22.
Other than that perhaps the person in possession of the legal ones didn’t have a PAL or was prohibited from possessing firearms.

Criminals can still possess firearms if they do so legally.

Mexico has some of the most prohibitive gun laws in the world; the average citizen is not allowed to own firearms (except under special circumstances and conditions. Its hard to argue that they have a safer society than we do. Create laws that are common sense and most people will go along with it.
