Two Stories Impacted Province in 2013 and for Future
Prince George, B.C.- There are two stories from 2013 which have made plenty of headlines in the Province of B.C. and which will resonate in the next couple of years
2013 was the year of the Provincial election, and if you asked any pollster, or voter, the New Democrat’s Adrian Dix was destined to be crowned Premier of the Province. The election was, they said "his to lose". The polls showed Christy Clark and her team of Liberals, well behind, and she was expected to be handed her walking papers by the voters of BC.
Well, as we now know, the pollsters only got their prediction half right. To the surprise of nearly everyone in the Province, ( except Christy Clark and her team) she won a majority government . Oh she lost her seat in her own riding, but would soon win a new one in a by-election in Kelowna, a Liberal stronghold.
As for Adrian Dix, well, he has announced he is stepping down as leader of the party , his replacement has yet to be chosen.
The other story which was in the headlines for much of the year? The Northern Gateway Pipeline.
From the release of interim recommendations in April, to the Joint Review Panel’s final decision that approved the project ( as long as the conditions are met), the proposed twin pipeline has been front and centre for most of the year.
The story has yet to see the final chapter. First Nations are already saying they will launch legal action to fight the project should the Federal Government give the final go ahead to the line. That will guarantee this project will resonate for years to come.
