I am sure the arrogant Green team will be very responsive….. not

the cartoon in the free press sums it up for most people of this city. If u havent seen the cartoon it shows 5 city workers around a man hole cover 1 working and 4 standing on their shovels saying ” it isnt about the money its about respect.” The ironic part of it is there is more than 5 people in city council not doing a damn thing either

All on our tax dollars not doing a damn thing

You do know WorkSafe BC rules and regulations, don’t you, omgreally? If you did then you’d know when one worker is in a manhole, there has to be 2 other workers present for safety and procedures that WorkSafe B.C. has in it’s guidelines. It’s not about lazy workers, it’s about the law. Just to clarify.

“The ironic part of it is there is more than 5 people in city council not doing a damn thing either”

The ironic part of you comment is that there are too many people like you who think work has to be physical to be called work.

Now, the real irony in it is that so many people standing around not doing a thing is a sign of either a coffee break or an inept supervisor/manager who cannot create a productive team.

AND, on top of that it is a sign of no “self starter” on the work team, other than possibly the one who is digging.

Do yourself a favour and watch the WDIC building going up with a crew of less than 10 people in wind, cold, snow, rain, etc. Won’t catch too many of them standing around doing nothing. $40 or so per hour union workers who know what it means to work.

Gus, you seem to be full of…advice and thoughts on the matter, perhaps you should look into WorkSafe rules instead of assuming, just a thought.

I have been a safety consultant for over a decade and have represented workers who have had claims against WCB/WorkSafe denied, have taken them to appeal and have won 3/4 of the cases I have done that with.

If there is something you wish to share with me regarding WorkSafe regulations which require people to stand around while one of them is physically working, please do so with specific references.

One other reminder. I have posted this thought on here before.

While workers are required by regulations to not only have regard to their own safety and that of their fellow workers, and their supervisors and managers have to have that same regard, there is absolutely nothing under WorkSafeBC regulations that requires them to produce a work product which is safe for the end user.

So, in the case at this time, there is nothing that requires them to remove windrows as quickly as possible, to keep the ends of windrows low so that even the lowest vehicles can se oncoming traffic when making a left hand turn into a side street, lane or driveway, etc. etc.

The individual worker has much of the “pencil” when it comes to work that is performed. Worker should not be hiding behind the “that is what we were told to do” syndrome of hierarchical command structures. The City workers are not in the armed forces under live battle duress.
