Tentative Contract Agreement Between City and CUPE
Prince George, B.C. – They have a tentative agreement. Following a day-long bargaining session described by at least one observer as an “intense tennis match”, negotiators for the City of Prince George and CUPE locals 1048 and 399 have tentatively agreed to a new contract.
Terms are not available as the details will go to the union memberships and city council for their perusal and hopeful ratification. CUPE say it hopes to present the proposed contract to its members at ratification votes on Thursday. Both Local 1048 President Janet Bigelow and Local 399 head Gary Campbell say they will be recommending their members accept the agreement.
Superintendent of Operations with the City, Bill Gaal, says he believes the deal is fair to the city, its workers and the taxpayers of Prince Greorge.
Negotiations began at 10 this morning and went back and forth all day before both negotiating teams shook hands. The union side had presented what it called a “bare bones” proposal to the city and had planned on job action had an agreement not been reached today. It is not known whether the proposal placed on the table this morning is the one agreed to, or if alterations were made during the lengthy bargaining session.
But there is labour peace, at least tentatively at this time, between the City of Prince George and its unionized workforce. The old contract expired at the end of December 2012.

Good, can they now scrape the ice ruts off the road? There are some on the new boundary road thar could rip the suspension off a car. And there’s no warning they are there.
Well you should know they are there as every road in this hole is the same
findme – There are four giant warning signs out for the ruts. They say “Welcome to Prince George”
Tentative contract agreement reached… I am glad the posturing is over and both sides got down to some serious bargaining.
It’s not bargaining when one side says here is our offer take it or leave it and walks away from the bargaining table.
I am guessing the contact will be 1%, 1%. 2% over the first three years just to keep up with inflation.
“I am glad the posturing is over and both sides got down to some serious bargaining.”
What are you talking about? If there is a tentative deal the bargaining is over. It now goes for ratification by the union members and technically by Council.
If the union members vote it down, well, then it is back to the bargaining table. I doubt they will vote it down.
Tentative contract reached “means” I am glad the posturing is over and both sides got down to some serious bargaining. If they had not ,there wouldn’t have been a tentative agreement reached, now would there?
Wow gus⦠can’t help how you misinterpret my comments. Move along and split hairs some where else.
Maybe now they can get rid of the snow furrow along foothills. A deer was hit tonight The driver not being able to see the deer crossing because of the huge furrow of snow. Animals are coming down off CRANBROOK hill to get out of the deep snow. Clear the dam streets Cherry
The road I live on was graded and the driveways were cleared 2 days ago and it is great! Wide and smooth. I even put my chains away. Of course now I see it is snowing again. I guess I will keep the chains handy.

holiday is over….
