That’s an average of nearly two per day, if they operated all 31 days. This is only the ones they caught. What’s with people?? I guess some just don’t get it yet. Scary.
Last Friday there was a cop in a white Yukon, partially hidden near the Alpine Pub and he was pulling people over as they drove out of the parking lot. Kind of low quality police work in my opinion. I had not been drinking, and there was no good reason for him to have pulled me over other than that I had been at the Pub.
Northern, to me that isn’t low quality police work, it’s what makes sense. What makes no sense is people still drinking and driving. The police actually advertise how much they will be out looking for drunk drivers and yet people still do it.
I would rather them pull people over than not. It’s possibly my life, my family’s or friends life they are gambling with.
I got stopped twice this season and see no problem in it. I don’t drink and drive. To many other options out there and to expensive if you do get charged. A cab ride is a cheap ride comparatively speaking .
P Val. Hiding around a facility that sells alcohol, and then stopping people who exit the building is called **entrapment**. As far as I know this type of policing is illegal.
Furthermore if you are being stopped for no reason by the Police then you should be concerned. Especially if it was not in a road block. The Police need a reason to believe that you have broken the law before they can arbitrarily pull you over.
Did you know you legally do not have to answer any questions being asked by the RCMP. Nor do you have to roll you window down(just a crack so they can here you) you just have to prove drivers license and registration.
That’s interesting carpenter I didn’t know that
Palopu, it might be as you say IF they provide you with the alcohol, however everyone in a pub is there of their own free will and consuming said alcohol that the police are NOT providing.
Carpenter, Doing as you suggest would fall under the Criminal Code Impaired Driving – refusal. Have a six pack some time and try it out, don’t forget to report back to us all how it worked out for you ;)
Good luck with that carpenter! Try giving them a false name too and see what happens. You are right though but not cooperating is like batting at a bees nest in the dark!
I think all pubs should have breathalyzers. Turn in your keys at the door and provide a breath sample to get them back!
They still have to have probable grounds to get you to blow. If they smell alcohol on you or see you driving erratically that’s probable grounds. If you tell them you had a couple then that’s a different story too.
If your going through a road block an they ask”have you been drinking” you can politely say I don’t have to answer that. They can’t just say take a breathalyzer
That’s not bad numbers, good work RCMP! Probably prevented a few accidents and somebody getting hurt, or worse.
Yeah carpenter, resist and be uncooperative with the RCMP. Good advice.
Operations Red Nose had record numbers over the holidays and the cops are still able to bust this many people for impaired driving? Sad.
“If your going through a road block an they ask”have you been drinking”
My response would be yes … two venti lattes.
Note that only 3 drivers were legally impaired by alcohol.
I haven’t been through a roadblock in a while, but I believe they ask you if you’ve consumed any alcohol this evening or something to that effect.
shooting fish in a barrel
Yes, JohnnyBelt. I admitted to drinking as I passed through a check on Cowart. Consequently, they tested me. I blew zero, despite consuming half a dozen drinks over the course of 3 or 4 hours.
