Oil Kings Blank Cougars.
Friday night in Prince George, the Cougars dropped an 8-0 decision to the Edmonton Oil Kings. Henrik Samuelsson recorded four goals and an assist while his linemates Reid Petryk (two goals, two assists) and Mitch Moroz (four assists) did equal parts damage. Tristan Jarry made 17 saves for his sixth shutout of the season. Cougar goaltenders Ty Edmonds and Adam Beukeboom combined for 49 saves on 57 shots faced.
Early in the first period the Cougars had ample opportunity to take the lead. First, Tristan Jarry made a fantastic stop point-blank off of Todd Fiddler, and then the Edmonton penalty killers killed off three straight Cougar power play chances keeping the game scoreless.
Just a handful of seconds removed from their third successful penalty kill, Edmonton struck first when Henrik Samuelsson cut to the middle from the left wing and beat Adam Beukeboom five-hole for his 19th goal of the season.
Reid Petryk extended Edmonton’s lead to 2-0 off a defensive turnover at 10:18, and Cody Corbett then tallied on a power play to make the score 3-0. Late in the first, Edmonton grabbed their fourth of the period off a beautiful backhand deke from Samuelsson.
59 seconds into the second, Edmonton made it 5-0 as Samuelsson buried a shot from the high slot, completing his hat-trick in the process. That goal spelled the end of the night for Adam Beukeboom who was pulled after allowing five goals on 24 shots faced.
In came Ty Edmonds who stopped the first nine shots he faced before allowing Reid Petryk to bury his second of the game off a Mitch Moroz rebound at 11:31 of the period. Henrik Samuelsson then capitalized on a power play at 15:22 giving Edmonton a 7-0 cushion through two periods.
The game’s final goal came at 13:08 of the third on another Edmonton power play as Ben Carroll snuck one through from the right point. Edmonton would finish three-for-six on the power play while the Cougars were zero-for-five on their chances. The final shot total favored Edmonton: 57-17.
Next up, the rematch tomorrow afternoon at the CN Centre. The Cougars look to bounce back from a tough outing in front of what promises to be a jacked up crowd who will be on site to help celebrate Scotiabank’s Hockey Day in Canada.

That was seriously painful. For a moment I thought I was listening to a Canucks game.
WE SUCKED!! the players had no spark..our power play was useless again,more like a penalty kill approach where we aimlessly dumped the puck into the offensive zone..the coaches were not vocal..fortunately the ownership wants everyone to see their best efforts so is even giving tickets away !! this effort tonite was so lacklustre and dis heartening that I observed a tremendous 20 year fan leave at the end of the 2nd period…guess who it was?
I wondered what verb Mr. Article would use in the headline……. normally a supporter of his prose but this is a puss errr wussy call. CREAMED , BLOWOUT , DESTROYED, SCHELLACKED , WHIPPED……blank is a cop out. That game was a coach killer.
If the person running music had a sense of humour, they could have started playing Sweet Georgia Brown during a time-out.
24 — how can we guess that? Is that an inside 250 club comment? I noticed L’ll Dallas did not make the intermission treks down to the dressing room. Always wonder what he must add to the discussion with the coach / players. There was a 20 yr season tic holder that got recognized. He deserves more than fast food coupon …. for 20 yrs these people should be recognized on-ice with something substantial ….. again another fan gets Brodskercized.
