Tuesday, January 21, 2014 @ 3:44 PM

Smithers- A 26 year old man is in custody facing charges in connection with a sexual assault in a Smithers residence.

Just after midnight today police were called to a break and enter at a home, where the homeowner had been assaulted. The victim awoke to find a man  in her bedroom.

He then threatened her, and sexually assaulted her, before fleeing from the home after hearing someone.

Police found clothing, and evidence at the scene, which identified  the suspect who was later located at the Greyhound Bus station. He was arrested without incident.

The man from Vancouver Island, is well known to police, and is now facing numerous charges.

He is being investigated about other offences in Smithers.

Nothing peeves me off in a story like this than “he/she was well known to police”. They commit crimes, get a slap on the wrist and are released to commit more crimes.

He is arrested, he’s not a minor, what’s his name?

Sickening. It’s gotta be frustrating for the cops to arrest the same people over and over again.

Huh makes a good point – I think this has been asked before, but what exactly are the rules regarding name publication? It seems to change but that perhaps is just perception.
Thanks

I thought as soon as they were charged and if they were not a minor then the name of the offender can be made public. They had no problem disclosing the name of the guy who got caught with rifles when he wasn’t supposed to have them.

You may be right – the story says “facing charges” not “has been charged”. Needs a court face to face first…
