Saturday, January 25, 2014 @ 9:07 PM

Saturday night in Brandon, the Prince George Cougars fell 6-3 to the Brandon Wheat Kings. Todd Fiddler had a goal and two assists for the Cougars in a losing cause while Peter Quenneville had two goals for Brandon. The Wheat Kings outshot the Cougars 31-28 and converted on three of their seven power play chances.

Peter Quenneville got the ball rolling offensively for Brandon with a power play goal at 5:51 of the first period. Quenneville snuck into the high slot, took a pass and blasted a shot up high past Ty Edmonds and in for his 13th of the season.

1:42 later Quntin Lisoway extended Brandon's lead when he scored a goal from the left wing beside the Cougars goal.

After the mid-way point of the period things turned around positively for the Cougars. First it was Todd Fiddler who capitalized off a Jansen Harkins pass for his team high 28th of the season. Then 42 seconds later Todd Fiddler found Klarc Wilson at the side of the Wheat Kings goal, and Wilson did the rest scoring his 20th of the season to make it 2-2.

The teams traded chances for the remainder of the first, but neither team could solve the other team's netminder and the period ended with a 2-2 tie. The shots were also even at 12-12.

Prince George took the lead shortly past the mid-way point of the second period. This time it was Todd Fiddler who forced the defensive-zone turnover, and Jansen Harkins did the rest. He pounced on a loose puck in front of the Brandon goal and slid a shot past Curtis Honey and in for his sixth goal of the season.

Penalties then got the best of the Cougars. After successfully killing off four straight penalties, their sixth one of the game would cost them. Eric Roy tied the game for Brandon at 18:22 off a shot from the left point. It was a big goal for Roy who was responsible for the defensive miscue that allowed Prince George to take the lead.

Through 40 minutes the score was 3-3 with Brandon holding a slight edge in the shots category.

The go-ahead goal would come at 10:31 of the third period. Brandon controlled the play for nearly a full minute in the Cougars zone before captain Ryan Pulock blasted home a point shot from the left side for his 15th goal of the season.

Ryan Pilon then extended the lead to 5-3 on a late third period power play. His power play marker came with just one second remaining in Zach Gonek's minor. Peter Quenneville would then add an empty-netter to secure the 6-3 victory.

Special teams were the difference as Brandon finished three-for-seven on their power play chances. Prince George countered with zero goals on three power play attempts.

With the loss the Cougars are now 18-26-2-5. They return to action on Monday night in Prince Albert, SK.
